      Overview

      NeuroPsychiatric Hospitals is looking for a Recreational Activity Associate at our Mishawaka location. NPH is the national leader in providing medical and neurobehavioral care to patients in acute psychiatric distress. You will be joining a team of rock star staff who provide exceptional, patient-centered care and understand our patients are always our number one priority! The Recreational Activity Associate plans, sets up, and leads all recreational activities while assisting participants with special needs and maintains all recreational equipment.

      Responsibilities

      • Leads and/or oversees individual and group activities on a daily basis, encouraging patient participation.
      • Assists the Director with implementing scheduled/suggested activities utilizing various techniques, including games, arts, sports, crafts, music, dance, movement and drama assists with building and maintaining the mental, emotional, and physical well-being of their clients.
      • Teach patients relaxation techniques and stretching exercises to assist with anxiety issues.
      • Makes use of techniques/activities for introverted patients and those who are uncomfortable in social settings to draw them out and encourage participation in daily activities.
      • Make use of physical activities to teach a person who has lost the use of one of his limbs or is paralyzed on one side, how to function with impaired mobility.
      • Updates Director on patient participation/reaction to all activities and reports any out of norm behaviors/symptoms to the clinical team.
      • Competes required documentation in accordance with hospital requirements
      • Unpacks and stores ordered supplies; maintains the activity storage area in a neat, clean manner. Picks up supplies after each activity and returns furniture to its original position.
      • Performs cleaning tasks to assist with infection control.
      • Maintains knowledge of current trends and developments in the field by reading appropriate books; journals and other literature and attending related seminars, conferences, etc.
      • Floats to other units and/or facilities as assigned.
      • Maintains a professional approach with confidentiality. Assures protection and privacy of health information as attained through written, electronic or oral disclosures.
      • Understands and adheres to NPH’s compliance standards as they appear in NPH’s Corporate Compliance Policy, Code of Conduct and Conflict of Interest Policy.
      • Keeps abreast of all pertinent federal, state and hospital regulations, laws and policies as they presently exist and as they change or are modified.

      Qualifications

      • High School Diploma or GED required.
      • Prior experience in a behavioral health setting preferred; at least 2 years of experience in a direct care role strongly preferred.
      • Basic Life Support (BLS) and Handle with Care (HWC) required and obtained during orientation.
      • Works well with the patients in need of behavioral/recreational therapy; Able to lead and motivate people; Good planning and organizational skills; Ability to take initiative; Is creative and resourceful in their therapy techniques; Good computer skills; Excellent verbal and written communication skills; Demonstrated organizational skills.
