Round Mountain is an open-pit mine located in Nevada, one of the best mining jurisdictions in the world. The mine uses conventional open-pit mining methods and processes ore by mill and heap leach. Kinross began operating the mine in 2003, and it has since become a continuous improvement leader in the Company’s portfolio. Round Mountain poured its 15 millionth ounce in 2018. Round Mountain and the nearby Bald Mountain mine make up Kinross’ Nevada operations.
The Round Mountain mine is an important contributor to the Nye County economy and, working with local stakeholders, has helped achieve significant improvements in healthcare and education in the area.
Job Description
The Refinery Operator will report directly to the Refinery Supervisor, focusing on safe, efficient production. Refinery Operators are to be trained in all job tasks within the refinery with strict compliance to the Ore Processing training program. He/she will be held to the highest standards of honesty, safety, productivity, and cooperation in the department and will report any problems immediately to the Refinery Lead or Refinery Supervisor.
Job Responsibilities
• Complete paperwork, including all training documentation, production reports, environmental reports, and daily safety inspections under the supervision of the Refinery Supervisor and Lead
• Diagnose potential problems within the refinery.
• Responsible, under the supervision and training of refinery lead and refinery supervisor to perform all refinery job tasks.
• Responsible to manage the RMGC Environmental Health and Safety Management system in his/her areas of responsibility.
• Responsible for accurate paperwork, under the direct supervision of the Refinery Supervisor / Lead.
• Ability to complete all refinery tasks in the Round Mountain and Gold Hill Refineries.
• Responsible for operating/cleaning/maintaining of: electrowinning cells, melting/pouring, furnace operation, mercury retort, scrubbing systems.
• Work with ADR Operators and Supervisors to understand the systems being used and effected.
• Ability to complete all necessary paperwork accurately in a timely manner.
• Basic computer skills.
• Understanding of maintenance planning and execution of routine unscheduled maintenance.
• Demonstration of some initial troubleshooting skills in all areas of the refinery.
• Must have a good understanding of all training requirements.
• Complete compliance to all RMGC and MSHA safety regulations is a must.
• Employee must be able to communicate effectively through oral and written media with all members of the Ore Process and Refinery team.Education and Experience
• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Valid driver's license.
• Must attend all scheduled classes and meetings offered by RMGC to enhance skills and job requirements.
• Must have basic knowledge in working with molten metals and washing E/W sludge and refining operations.The refiner will be exposed to molten metals; dusty materials, E/W sludge, chemicals and solution. Appropriate PPE must be worn when required without variance. Overtime may be required; incumbent will work a straight day schedule. The refineries are a secured work area that include specific PPE and other security requirements.
