- Adhere to, support and implement applicable Company policies, procedures and Commercial direction throughout the Sales team
- Develop a clear, concise and compelling sales force vision that is aligned with the strategy of the Nedosiran franchise and overall sales strategy
- Provide clear direction, inspiration and motivation of the sales team
- Drive accountability relative to goals, thereby driving expected volume; capture and promote internal and external best practices
- Develop and obtain significant thought leader support; build strong relationships with external customers and demonstrate the commitment Novo Nordisk has for patients and healthcare providers
- Ensure development of KOLs, advocacy groups, and others that can impact rare renal and Nedosiran pharmacological treatment and disease state management
- Take part in an effective sales leadership team where each leader embodies the Novo Nordisk Way and instills a winning culture within the team
- Hire and establish the sales team, lead development of it, and contribute to company efforts to foster a proactive, collaborative, inclusive, and customer-centric culture
- Align sales force efforts with marketing strategies; assist develop key messages, partner on implementation, training and execution of pull-through activities
- Develop and execute national, district, and territorial business plans that result in achievement of NNI business results consistent with company objectives. This includes customer identification and prioritization, competitive analysis, business success requirements and implementation plans, etc.
- Ensure timely and accurate transmission of representative and manager required data e.g. customer coverage/call data, time accountability data, etc.
- Monitor and reinforce the use of any applicable systems
- Develop and monitor performance against budgets and operate within budget
- Ensure timely and accurate submission of administrative requirements
- Establish, oversee implementation, and monitor adherence to administrative policies and procedures
- Review and audit expense reports
- A Bachelors Degree required - major in Business or Marketing preferred. MBA is preferred
- 10 years or more of progressive pharmaceutical/healthcare sales experience is preferred
- More than 5 years of previous people management experience in a sales organization preferred
- Relevant experience from launching and selling pharmaceutical assets in the ultra-rare disease space is preferred, ideally within Rare Renal. Novo Nordisk sales leadership experience can partly substitute for this
- Cross-functional experience in multiple areas is strongly preferred (e.g., Operations, Market Access, Marketing, etc).
- Launch experience is preferred
About the Department
The Strategy & Rare Disease (STARS) organization drives the long-term strategic direction of Novo Nordisk Inc. (NNI)/North America Operations (NAO) and leads all US commercial efforts for Novo Nordisk’s Rare Disease portfolio. The mandate of STARS is to facilitate the development and to coordinate the execution of the long-term strategy, defining a sustainable business model in US beyond a 5-year time horizon. This department serves as the insiders of the US market when informing and help shaping upstream decisions around future investments and assets. The Rare Disease portfolio includes products in the hemophilia and growth disorders therapeutic areas, new products in the pipeline, and products acquired through business development efforts in existing and new areas. The STARS team collaborates and partners with groups across NAO, Research & Early Development, Development, innovation hubs across NN, other affiliates, and global. Purpose
The Regional Business Director (RBD) for Rare Renal is responsible for developing and driving business performance of Nedosiran, an ultra-rare kidney product expected to be approved by the FDA later in 2023. The leadership position will lead a high performing regional field sales team covering a part of the United States. In tight collaboration with the VP of Nedosiran Commercialization and the other RDRBD, this role will develop, lead and execute sales strategies and initiatives to maximize sales and profitability for the asset.
Relationships
The RBD for Rare Renal reports directly to the VP of Nedosiran Commercialization, is a key member of the Commercial Leadership Team for Nedosiran, and has direct supervisory responsibility for a regional sales team. Internally, the RBD works closely with the members of the Commercial Leadership Team and with key leaders and stakeholders across Novo Nordisk Inc. (NNI) involved in the commercialization of the asset, such as Medical, Market Access, Commercial Operations, Insights and Analytics, Legal, and Human Resources. External relationships include key customers and local stakeholders with the territory as well as patient organizations. The position requires frequent senior management interaction, leadership, and collaboration.
This role covers most states on the West Coast of the United States.
Essential Functions
Physical Requirements
25-50% overnight travel required.
Development of People
Ensure that reporting personnel have individual development plans (IDP), with annual goals and measurements that are consistent with the priorities of the business, and that interim reviews are held so that their work is focused on those priorities, and they understand their level of accountability for results and the measurement process. Ensure that the IDP forms include completed learning and aspiration plans and are in place for all reporting personnel to enable the achievement of goals and capability to assume increased levels of responsibility. Manage the application and communication of all Novo Nordisk policies, procedures, and Novo Nordisk Way.
Qualifications
The base compensation range for this position is $181,660 to $317,910. Base compensation is determined based on a number of factors. In addition, this position is part of the sales incentive compensation program. The role may also be eligible for a long-term incentive bonus depending on level and other Company factors. The position is eligible for a company car through the Company’s FLEET program. Employees are also eligible to participate in Company employee benefit programs including medical, dental and vision coverage; life insurance; disability insurance; 401(k) savings plan; flexible spending accounts; employee assistance program; tuition reimbursement program; and voluntary benefits such as group legal, critical illness, identity theft protection, pet insurance and auto/home insurance.
