- Mentors and develops direct reports (General Managers and Delivery Center Managers) through coaching, providing performance feedback and offering advice to foster professional growth and development.
- Works closely with direct reports to effectively execute the mission, fulfill strategic objectives, achieve performance targets, and meet profitability goals.
- Evaluates performance of direct reports through the Performance Scorecard. Key member of management team that evaluates/calibrates scorecards for all managers in the reporting structure. Reviews and approves annual merit wage increases.
- Actively involved in achieving the company’s Strategic Plan as a member of the Leadership Council.
- In collaboration with the VP of Operations, reviews and sets retail pricing of energy products to maximize gross margin while remaining competitive within each market segment. Monitors and gathers competitive market data from General Managers and keeps the RVP of Operations informed.
- Collaborates with the Director of Sales, Director of Marketing, and key Shared Services leaders to prepare for the launch of sales and marketing initiatives and enhance the overall customer experience.
- Reviews and approves annual operating budgets and capital budgets for Market locations. Reviews monthly financial statements with each General Manager. Works closely with General Managers to resolve significant budget variances.
- Attains a general understanding of the energy software management system along with other systems for accounting and financial control.
- Attains a thorough knowledge and understanding of all company policies, procedures, and programs. Gains an understanding of all federal and state laws pertaining to petroleum distribution and service.
- Instrumental in reviewing, updating, and formulating policies and procedures relating to customer experience.
- Promotes culture of safety and all corporate safety programs. Works with VP/General Counsel and Safety Manager to identify areas needing attention.
- Sets a high standard of corporate image and strives to uphold the integrity of company policies and procedures. Supports Enterprise Risk Management program.

Dead River Company is currently recruiting for a Regional Director of Operations who will oversee our market locations in SE New Hampshire and Massachusetts. This leadership position reports to the Regional Vice President and offers a broad array of responsibilities such as driving a customer-focused culture, achieving financial objectives, developing team members and promoting safety. A bachelor's degree in business administration and related field and industry experience are preferred.
Position Summary:
The Regional Director of Operations is a key member of the Company’s leadership team responsible for leading a large segment of the company’s Energy operations. This position manages General Managers and Delivery Center Managers who are directly responsible for ensuring an exceptional customer experience in specific geographic areas. The Regional Director of Operations also provides leadership in support of the Dead River Company Mission, Strategic Plan, and Customer Guarantees and Pledges. This is a key position responsible for achieving profitability targets. This position is also a member of the corporate Leadership Council that is directly involved with achieving the company’s Strategic Plan. The candidate will need to reside within the region and be willing to travel extensively.

Education:
A bachelor’s degree in business administration or related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
Experience:
This position requires a minimum of 7 years of experience leading people. A minimum of 7 years of previous experience managing a full-service energy operation is strongly preferred.

Decisions Made:
The Regional Director of Operations is a key decision-maker in both short and long-range planning, policy setting, and overall direction. This position is called upon to make or assist in important decisions relating to customer relationships, staffing, employee relations, profitability, and other operational matters. Decisions are often made in consultation with the RVP of Operations.
Safety Considerations:
This position plays a major role in supporting the corporate safety program. The company has both large deductible and self-insured insurance programs in place. Success of these programs is dependent on the control or reduction of employee injuries, vehicle accidents, and liability claims. This position personally has safety considerations relating to vehicle safety, trip/slip/fall hazards, and ergonomic issues in the office.
Work Environment:
Extensive travel is required in this position, mostly between markets within the current company footprint as well as to support future growth in an expanded footprint. Significant time is spent riding in a vehicle and in an office setting with controlled temperatures. Time is also spent outside the office in various settings including all weather conditions and temperatures.
