      About the Opportunity

      Reporting to the Provincial Manager - Intake Mental Health and Addictions (MHA) Program, the Intake role is responsible for facilitation of intake for MHA service within NSH. Intake is a provincial centralized telephone access service for Mental Health and Addictions Intake in Nova Scotia. This includes the utilization of appropriate screening tools, risk assessment, clinical triage and disposition, brief supportive counselling and psychoeducation, consultation, and information sharing. The Intake Nurse role facilitates client navigation and referral support into and out of MHA. The Intake Nurse demonstrates competencies in clinical leadership, guidance, and support, to determine the overall direction of care and initial coordination of services based on identified person-centered needs and within their scope of practice. As a member of a collaborative inter-professional care team, they work with other health disciplines and service providers to coordinate care to achieve person-centered outcomes. The Intake Nurse demonstrates an understanding of the various scopes of practice and scope of employment of the MHA Program to ensure the appropriate service is being provided by the most appropriate provider, given the client context. The Intake Nurse supports the development of students and colleagues through acting as a preceptor and providing ongoing mentorship. Contributes to the efficient and effective functioning of the service. Accepts responsibility for maintaining and continually enhancing competencies through ongoing professional development including participation in education programs, research, and continuous quality activities.

      About You

      We would love to hear from you if you have the following:

      • Bachelor of Science in Nursing or Bachelor of Nursing (consideration will be given to diploma prepared candidates who have experience working with the patient population and are able to demonstrate equivalency to a degree based on post entry level courses and experience)
      • Current registration with the College of Registered Nurses of Nova Scotia
      • Post Graduate of MHA Program or Canadian Nurses Association Specialty Certification in MHA or willingness to obtain
      • Minimum three years of full-time relevant clinical experience in a mental health and addictions practice environment required
      • Knowledge of harm reduction strategies and stages of change theory
      • Experience in offering supportive brief intervention strategies focused on harm reduction and recovery
      • Ability to navigate and de-escalate situations and offer crisis support using appropriate methods when needed
      • BLS-C (HCP) Certification
      • Non-violent Crisis Intervention
      • Working knowledge of the programs and services within the MHA program of care and relative community resources
      • Ability to work with minimal supervision on a consultative basis
      • Computer skills including Microsoft Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint) and computer documentation systems
      • Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred

      Hours

      • Temporary Long Assignment 60% FTE/ 45 Hours Biweekly
      • Hours may include some evenings until 8pm and holidays 830 - 430

      Compensation and Incentives

      $35.04 - $41.41 Hourly
      ($42.86 with 25 years of RN experience)
