Your Opportunity:
The Registered Nurse (RN) works in an acute surgical unit at the Royal Alexandra Hospital (RAH). Reporting to the Staffing Service Centre Relief Team Program Manager, the RN is responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of comprehensive patient and family centered care on an acute surgical unit in accordance with Royal Alexandra Hospital (RAH) and Alberta Health Services (AHS) policy and procedures. These units work under a collaborative care nursing model on all shifts with RNs, Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs), and Health Care Aides working together to provide patient care. All RN’s will have the opportunity to work to their full scope of practice within hospital policy which includes complex patient assessment and management, leadership, and inter-professional collaboration. In this position RN’s will direct and monitor the care provided by Licensed Practical Nurses & Health Care Aides and support their RN peers. Successful candidates will be expected to: float to all surgery units; participate in quality improvement initiatives at the front line; supporting and maintaining high quality patient care strategies within the surgery program. Preference will be given to those in the RAH Surgery Float Pool.
Description:
As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS. PLEASE NOTE: Provisional Permit Holders shall be paid $39.58 /hour - $54.16/hour. Upon being entered into the register of Registered Nurses, the rate of pay shall be adjusted to the rate of pay applicable to a Registered Nurse in accordance with AHS/UNA Article 25.02(b)(i) or (ii) as applicable.
Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP). If you have not practiced as a Registered Nurse within the last five (5) years, completion of the following free courses is required: CRNA Medication Management - Chapters 1 - 4 (https://connect.nurses.ab.ca/home//learning-and-development/learning-modules/) and the NextGenU Health Assessment Resources Certification (https://courses.nextgenu.org/course/view.php?id=271#section-0)
Additional Required Qualifications:Excellent time management and prioritization skills with demonstrated ability to function effectively within a dynamic environment. Demonstrated problem solving, critical thinking, and conflict resolution skills. Actively integrate patient and family centered care principles within your own Nursing practice. Understanding of CoACT and collaborative care in the acute care setting.
Preferred Qualifications:Experience working within a Surgery acute care practice setting within the last 2 years preferred. Experience working in a surgery float pool position or the RAH surgery float pool, working on multiple units preferred. Experience working within the CoACT framework is preferred. Order Processing and Transcription experience preferred. Charge Nurse experience preferred. IV Certification preferred.
