      This Opportunity is a Per Diem Days Position.

      Qualifications

      Registered Nurse First Assist (RNFA) Job Requirements:

      • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing from an accredited School of Nursing and completion of an accredited RN First Assistant program that includes didactic and supervised clinical practice, as based on AORN’s core curriculum for the RNFA.
      • 3-5 years experience in Perioperative Nursing is required.
      • Must be a registered nurse currently licensed to practice in the State of Florida, possess OR certification [CNOR] from the Association of periOperative Registered Nurses (AORN) certification [C-RNFA] or eligible to complete supervised hours necessary to sit for the RNFA certification exam by AORN within 90 days of employment.
      • Current American Heart Association BLS, ACLS, and PALS

      Role and Responsibilities

      The Registered Nurse First Assistant (RNFA) is a specialized registered nurse whose practice is an extension of perioperative nursing and has acquired knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to provide the surgical team with assistance within the Operating Room and other similar settings. The development of specific technical skills enables the RNFA to assist the surgeon with specific intraoperative procedures that are beyond the scope of practice for registered nurses without RNFA education and training. The scope of practice includes utilization of nursing process in performing comprehensive preoperative patient care management, intraoperative surgical first assisting and postoperative patient care management. Intraoperatively, the RNFA functions interdependently with the surgeon and applies knowledge, skill, and judgment necessary to assist the surgeon in performing a safe operation that yields optimal results for the patient. The RNFA will provide patient care for all ages and/or provide leadership and direction to the perioperative team during the Perioperative phase as needed. The RNFA does not concurrently function as the Scrub Nurse.
