- Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant: The Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). The approving official may authorize a waiver of the requirement for ACEN or CCNE accreditation of any degree in nursing provided the college or university has regional accreditation from an accrediting body recognized by the Department of Education at the time of the candidate's graduation and the composite qualifications of the applicant warrant such consideration. In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement of graduation from an approved school of professional nursing. OR The completion of coursework equivalent to a nursing degree in a MSN Bridge Program that qualifies for professional nursing registration constitutes the completion of an approved course of study of professional nursing. Students should submit the certificate of professional nursing to sit for the NCLEX to the VA along with a copy of the MSN transcript. (Reference VA Handbook 5005, Appendix G6) OR In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of a current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement for graduation from an approved school of professional nursing.
- Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the United States, or the District of Columbia.
- Nurse I Level I - An Associate Degree (ADN) or Diploma in Nursing, with no additional nursing practice/experience required.
- Nurse I Level II - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 1 year of nursing practice/experience; OR an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a bachelor's degree in a related field with no additional nursing practice/experience; OR a Bachelor's of Science in Nursing (BSN) with no additional nursing practice/experience.
- Nurse I Level III - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a Bachelor's degree in a related field and approximately 1-2 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a BSN with approximately 1-2 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a Master's degree in nursing (MSN) or related field with a BSN and no additional nursing practice/experience.
- Nurse II - A BSN with approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a Bachelor's degree in a related field and approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a Master's degree in nursing or related field with a BSN and approximately 1-2 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a Doctoral degree in nursing or meets basic requirements for appointment and has doctoral degree in a related field with no additional nursing practice/experience required.

GI Lab Charge Nurse/Board Runner: When functioning in the role of the Charge Nurse/Board Runner, the RN will complete duties as appropriate per unit managers, lead by example by demonstrating leadership, experience, and facilitation of patient flow during his/her shift. The Charge Nurse (CN) assists in patient care and quality of delivered care by staff. The CN will assess staffing variances throughout the shift and work collaboratively with the Nurse Manager/Assistant Nurse Manager. The CN ensures timely patient flow by coordinating the entire scope of the procedure (from pre-op, outpatient/in-patient procedures, and recovery) including team room assignments and physician assignments patients, coordinating of travel cases and urgent/emergent procedures added to the schedule. This includes ensuring staff provide timely nursing care and adhere to policies, procedures and follow all protocols, guidelines and standards of practice (SOP) by monitoring and notifying the Nurse Manager or Assistant Nurse manager or designee of practice issues, while providing positive and constructive instruction / feedback as appropriate.
GI Endoscopy Lab Nurse
The Gastroenterology Nurse is assigned to the Gastroenterology Section of the Nursing Service VALLHCS. The Gastroenterology Nurse is a professional Registered Nurse who provides high-quality, evidence-based care for Veteran patients who are undergoing endoscopy procedures by the Gastroenterology team for both out-patient and inpatient settings. The GI Lab nurse role covers pre-procedure, intra-procedure, and post-procedure recovery. The GI section provides clinical assessment of Veterans who have GI related conditions from swallowing to elimination. The services include evaluation, diagnosis and treatment, follow-up, responding to consults, patient/family/caregiver education, and ongoing outreach. This service also participates in clinical research and outcomes. The nurse working in this role will coordinate appointments, work with schedulers, evaluate orders and consults, assist with coordination of care, participate in the education of Veterans and family/caretakers, process clinical encounters, and review and document in the Veteran's clinical record. This RN practices in a complex patient care setting in collaboration with interdisciplinary team members, colleagues, and the Nurse Manager/Assistant Nurse Manager. The RN is responsible for the delivery of nursing care to the Veteran population being treated for multiple specialty diagnoses. The GI Lab nurse must be proficient in patient triage, basic nursing care, and assist with practices and protocols in pre-op, intra-procedure, and post-op. The types of patients include but are not limited to the following: Allergy, Cardiology, Dermatology, Diabetes Management, Endocrinology, Infectious Disease, Nephrology, Neurology, Oncology, Preventative Medicine, and Rheumatology. The incumbent is accountable when assigned as a primary nurse or team leader for a defined group of patients during their shift or for an entire episode of care. Based upon education and experience, this nurse may provide direct supervision over new hires and/or student nurses. This nurse may be assigned as a preceptor, resource/circulator, or team lead. This RN must be moderate sedation trained, including pre-procedure assessment, intra-procedure monitoring, and post procedure recovery. On a daily basis the nurse may be exposed to infected patients, contaminated materials, patients who are combative secondary to delirium, dementia or psychiatric disorders and appropriate and appropriate protocols must be followed. This RN must also have Basic Arrythmia Recognition Training. They will safely provide care to patients during procedures and demonstrate competency in administering medications. They will require minimum supervision, and they will utilize the nursing process to safely and therapeutically care for patients with obvious as well as subtle needs. This RN will assist with endoscopy specialty procedures and other specialty procedures within the scope of the Gastroenterology Section (Paracentesis, Motility, Biofeedback, etc.) as needed, maintaining integrity of specimens and following proper policies/protocols related to the collection of samples. They will supervise support staff and delegate care within their scope of practice. This RN will identify and seek resolution of patient-related problems, using available resources and problem solving skills. They will work effectively with all levels of staff and aim to include collaborative efforts with other health professionals.

Work Schedule: Monday to Friday 10 hour tours. Tour 07:00am to 5:30pm with rotating day off or pending the needs of the facility.

Basic Requirements:
-GI Endoscopy Experience
-Moderate Sedation experience
-Critical care nursing, emergency room nursing, and PACU nursing will be considered
-Two years of inpatient medical surgical experience will be considered
-Excellent customer service skills with service recovery
-Preferred current process improvement/quality improvement projects and or committee involvement.
