- Demonstrating nursing expertise and providing clinical leadership in evidence-based practices through direct care activities
- Completes psychiatric nursing assessment of patients
- Provides health teaching to patients, family members and frontline staff concerning medication, illness, symptom management, and recovery using a biopsychosocial framework.
- Recommends the implementation of interventions based on assessment, patient and family input and in conjunction with the treatment team using a patient and family centered approach to care.
- Ensures coordinated delivery of care through ongoing communication with all members of the treatment team
- Documents all assessment findings, treatment, transfer and discharge plans as required
- Assists with application of behavior management strategies under the guidance of the psychiatrist on the Consultation Liaison team.
- Uses a variety of interventions to manage responsive behaviors of patients such as, confusion, delirium, dementia, aggression, agitation etc.
- Administers a variety of assessment scales in collaboration with the treatment team to record patient symptoms and/or behavior. For example, BPRS, CIWA, MoCA, MMSE, AIMS, Cornell Scale for Depression in Dementia etc. dependent on area of clinical involvement.
- Participate in program quality initiatives, and program evaluation as necessary
- Graduate of a recognized college or school of nursing
- Current Certificate of Competence from the College of Nurses of Ontario in good standing
- Current BCLS/CPR certification required
- Demonstrated assessment, consultation, and evaluation skills in the care of mental health patients
- Experience in assisting with ECT treatments and recovery or seniors care preferred
- Demonstrated ability to provide individual/group health teaching for patients and staff.
- Proven ability to interact with patients and their families in an empathetic and non-judgemental manner to support a model of recovery
- Excellent knowledge of the Mental Health Act
- The ability to work effectively within an interprofessional collaboration model
- Exceptional skills of leadership, self-direction, interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills, and proficiency of MS Office applications and other medical based systems (i.e. EPIC)
- Ability to be flexible and have willingness to provide a variety of tasks as required for effective patient flow
- Excellent organizational, time management and critical thinking skills

Job Description:
As part of the Consultation Liaison Psychiatry Service, the Registered Nurse will work at the interface of medicine and psychiatry and provide psychiatric consultation for patients admitted to medical/surgical units across the hospital. The team provides service and expert psychiatric consultation for individuals who develop signs and symptoms of psychiatric distress while they are in hospital for a medical or surgical reason, and help and support family members of these individuals.
In addition, to supporting the Consultation Liaison Psychiatry Service, the Registered Nurse will also provide backup coverage for Electroconvulsive Therapy. Coverage includes assisting in the ECT procedure as directed; clinically assessing pre and post ECT patients; documents the ECT treatment and outcomes; coordinates transfer of care back to the inpatient unit for monitoring as required and other duties as required.
