      Registered Pharmacy Technician

      JOB SUMMARY

      The pharmacy technician functions under the direct supervision of the pharmacist and is responsible for the accurate preparation of prescriptions for verification by the pharmacist on duty and maintaining the workflow of the pharmacy including cashiering and the accurate release of prescriptions at will-call. They must also perform all other activities as allowed and regulated by the Florida Board of Pharmacy.

      PRIMARY FUNCTIONS

      1. Assist the pharmacist in maintaining all operations of the pharmacy department
      2. Perform accurate and efficient data entry, billing, product dispensing and labeling, and release to patient functions
      3. Collect the correct monies when releasing prescriptions at will call as well as provide accurate change to patients
      1. Submit accurate and necessary supply and medication orders under the direction of the pharmacist
      1. Follow all medication guidelines as well as policies and procedures for receiving, filling, dispensing, logging, maintaining loss prevention procedures, and avoiding diversion for all inventory including controlled medications
      2. Ensure that pharmacy policies as well as federal and state laws and regulations in all prescription related issues, including HIPAA, 340b, SOP, QA, and CQI, are followed
      3. Understand and maintain compliance with the 340b drug program
      4. Verify that presented prescriptions are current and valid for dispensing
      5. Complete a 340b eligibility check for every prescription fill to determine if the prescription meets eligibility criteria
      6. Demonstrate the ability to navigate the electronic health record (EHR) of patients to find all relevant information necessary for prescription processing
      7. Review prescriptions issued by physicians or other authorized prescribers to assure accuracy, appropriateness, and determine formulas and ingredients needed
      8. Compounds medications, using standard formulas and processes such as weighing, measuring, and mixing ingredients under the supervision of the pharmacist
      9. Ensure that all control drug policies and procedures as required by state, federal, and organizational guidelines are followed
      10. Accurately enter and maintain patient demographic information
      11. Performs troubleshooting functions for third-party discrepancies and other prescription filling issues
      12. Answer the telephone and assist patients at the front counter as well as through curbside pickup to maintain the workflow of the pharmacy
      13. Utilize the phone language translation service to communicate with patients that speak another language
      14. Responsible for maintaining a current and valid license as required by state, federal and pharmacy guidelines
      15. Maintain contact with providers, clinical support staff, and administrative staff to determine needs, resolve problems, improve processes, and promote effective drug therapy
      16. Stay current with new and changing drug therapies and uses
      17. Responsible for the proper maintenance of pharmacy drug inventories including accurate counts and clean shelving
      18. Responsible for the proper storage of all pharmacy inventory
      19. Maintains a clean, neat, and orderly pharmacy department at all times
      20. Actively engage patients and provide exemplary customer service as well as provide education about pharmacy services and programs offered in an effort to grow the pharmacy business and volume of prescriptions dispensed
      21. Maintains established procedures concerning quality assurance, security of controlled substances, and disposal of hazardous waste drugs
      22. Efficiently enters accurate data such as, but not limited to, patient demographics, prescription information, drug cost, prescription pricing, insurance information, and inventory
      23. Maintains awareness of third-party Rx billing systems and resolves third-party rejection problems promptly, and resubmits rejected claims for payment on a timely basis
      24. Resolves and reports prescription issues and errors to the pharmacist on duty immediately and adheres to regulations and company policy regarding continuous quality improvement
      25. Develop and maintain a good working relationship with physicians and other health care professionals in order to better assist the patients
      26. Delivers accurate reports and assignments on time
      27. Completes all assigned projects and tasks accurately and on time
      28. Must have reliable daily transportation and be able to travel to and staff the pharmacy at other health center locations when necessary as instructed
      29. Participate in events outside of normal course of business as assigned
      30. Ability to work any work schedule as assigned by the organization which may include evening and/or weekend hours
      31. Must be able to provide support outside of regular business hours as required, including the ability to be on call as needed
      32. Any other duties as assigned

      EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

      1. High School diploma or equivalent
      1. Minimum of 2 years of experience in a retail type community pharmacy setting
      2. Pharmacy Technician Training Program Certificate of Completion (must be provided to the organization within 2 weeks of hire)
      3. Current Florida Pharmacy Technician license, active and in good standing, with no restrictions
      4. BLS CPR Certification required and maintained current

      5. Efficient and proficient in all computer applications under which work is assigned including email, Adobe®, Microsoft Office® programs, electronic medical records systems, pharmacy prescription processing software(s), and other programs as assigned
      6. Ability to work well with people.

      ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS

      1. Bilingual a plus

      RELATIONSHIP REPORTING

      1. Reports to staff pharmacists, assistant pharmacy managers, and pharmacy managers

      PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS OF JOB

      1. Ability to stand and or walk for extended periods of time
      2. Ability to view a computer screen for extended periods of time
      1. Ability to reach with hands or arms
      1. Ability to perform repetitive hand and wrist motions for extended periods of time
      2. Ability to perform lifting and bending motions
      3. Ability to use a stepladder
      4. Ability to lift up to 25 pounds
