    • Ability to safely, regularly lift and/or move up to 20 pounds and occasionally lift and/or moves up to 50 pounds.
    • Conduct school health services with students including screening for physical examinations, immunizations, hearing and vision tests, and dental clinics.
    • Refer students who are in need of medical and dental care to parents.
    • Report to parents, school personnel, physicians, clinics, and other agencies on school medical/health matters, including suspected child neglect and abuse.
    • Maintain current cumulative health records on all students.
    • Provide immediate first aid care until a parent or physician is available to students and staff members who have suffered injury or emergency illness.
    • Participate with school staff in developing a total school health program and maintain close working relationships with other health care providers in the community.
    • Participate, under the supervision of health teachers, in teaching health topics.
    • Conduct and/or assist in training school staff with required CPR and first aid.
    • Contact or visit homes of children referred by principals and teachers regarding health or medical concerns.
    • Advise on modification of the educational program to meet the health needs of individual students (i.e., classroom placement of hearing or vision impaired students).
    • Prepare and submit reports to the Director of Federal Programs, Superintendent, the State Boards of Health or Education, and the Alaska Department of Health and Social Services as required.
    • Authorize exclusion and readmission of students with infectious and contagious diseases in accordance with statute, regulation, and policy.
    • Administer medications according to School Board Policy.
    • Order and inventory school health-care materials and supplies.
    • Assist with administration of federal school lunch programs.
    • Initiate and assist with organization of athletic physicals.
    • Participate in relevant services and training programs at the direction of the Director of Federal Programs.
    • Conduct TB testing, health screening and staff/student education at rural schools.
    • Maintain confidentiality of students, staff, school business, materials, and information.
    • Other duties as assigned from time to time.

      Location: Peterson Elementary
      Hours: 6 hrs/day, 5 days/week, 9 months
      Salary: Entry Range 30, Step 1: $35.06 per hour (Associates RN degree)
      Entry Range 31, Step 1: $40.15 per hour (Bachelors RN degree)

      Registered School Nurse

      Position Summary: The Registered School Nurse will work under day-to-day supervision provided by the building principals. General responsibilities entail the promotion of health education, care, counseling and crisis intervention to all students, parents and staff.


      Qualifications:
      1. Ability to work well with students, teachers, and parents.
      2. Possess a current Alaska R.N. license.
