      A Registered Nurse who assumes the responsibility and accountability for the peri-operative assessment and planning through interview, collection of data and collaboration with the healthcare team to determine perioperative readiness. The RN will ensure that all testing and appropriate clearances are complete to optimize patient outcomes a minimum of 5 days prior to surgery date.

      Responsibilities

      • 1. Demonstrates high level skill in assessment of health care needs for the perioperative experience.
        • 1.1 Demonstrates knowledge and experience interviewing, observing, collecting health care data, and performing systems assessment according to hospital policy.
      • 2. Demonstrates advanced skill in planning for patient health care needs for the perioperative experience.
        • 2.1 Communicates and collaborates with anesthesia team to determine patient surgical preparedness and notifies physician office if additional testing prior to surgery if required as per anesthesia guidelines.
      • 3. Demonstrates high level skills in implementing care to meet patient care needs for the perioperative experience.
        • 3.1 Demonstrates advanced nursing skills appropriate to clinical area.
      • 4. Documents appropriately, accurately and consistently to optimize the perioperative experience.
        • 4.1 Maintains unit based statistical logs and information.
      • 5. Demonstrates leadership skills and professional growth.
        • 5.1 Identifies areas in performance needing improvement as evidenced by completion of self assessment skills checklist and ongoing communication with supervisor.
      • 6. Understands and is adept with software applications as required.
        • 6.1 Maintains changes and additions to schedule on a daily basis up to 5 weeks ahead of time.
      • 7. Performs other duties as assigned.

      Qualifications

      EDUCATION

      Graduate from an accredited School of Nursing. Bachelors degree in Nursing preferred.

      EXPERIENCE

      Minimum of 2 years nursing experience in an acute care setting. Previous experience in a perioperative or procedural area prefered.

      LICENSURE

      Current license to practice nursing in the State of Connecticut

      SPECIAL SKILLS

      Excellent interpersonal, communication and organizational skills. Ability to assess medical history, labs, and tests independently in order to communicate abnormal findings to appropriate provider.

      PHYSICAL DEMAND

      While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. They are also required to stand and walk. Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. The noise level in the work environment is quiet.


      Additional Information

      Hours: Monday-Friday 8 hour shifts between 7:30-4:30

      Responsibilities include:

      Conduct pre-op phone calls to ensure all patients have a great surgical experience with us at BH
      Ensure patients receive all necessary pre-op testing and are cleared for surgery as well as making sure all documentation is in place
      Demonstrate proficiency in administering the fundamentals of the nursing process.
      Contribute to nursing assessment and the development of a nursing care plan.
      Participate in the evaluation of nursing care.
      Obtain and document nursing history from patients.
