      Regulatory Analyst - Consumer Regulation

      British Gas maintains an excellent corporate and regulatory reputation within an industry under ever-increasing political, regulatory and consumer group scrutiny. To support our engagement with external regulatory and consumer bodies, we now seek a Regulatory Analyst to help support the Consumer Regulation Team and coordinate our activities across a wide range of issues and priorities for British Gas across the whole regulatory, social policy and consumer redress landscape.

      Purpose of the role:

      • The Regulatory Affairs function understands, provides advice and influences the various regulatory components of the energy sector, so that Centrica businesses can work effectively within it

      • Within this function, this newly created role within the Consumer Regulation Team will support colleagues by coordinating submissions to our regulator and other third parties

      Specifically, the role will focus on activities across a portfolio of retail regulatory issues including:

      • ensuring timely and accurate delivery of submissions to Ofgem and other relevant third parties

      • providing oversight and context for regular regulatory reporting to Ofgem and other bodies

      • capturing Requests for Information (RFIs) and communications from Ofgem

      • ensuring the impact of regulatory change arising from changes to our Standard Licence Conditions is understood by the various business units and to support the appropriate change management

      This will include:

      • close collaboration with regulatory colleagues and the business units to understand and communicate the impacts of regulatory change

      • working with other functions within our Legal, Regulation, Ethics & Compliance and Secretariat (LRECS) business unit as well as business stakeholders on delivery of regulatory change, and contributing to British Gas’ responses to Ofgem and other statutory bodies

      • maintaining effective stakeholder relationships with relevant key internal stakeholders

      • providing administrative support and governance to the Consumer Regulation Team’s day-to-day activities

      Location: We work flexibly in line with our Flexible First working arrangements believing that empowered colleagues are happier and more productive. The successful candidate will, however, need to be comfortable travelling to our Windsor office (SL4 5GD) on occasion.

      About the Role:

      • Manage the collation of materials to respond to Market Compliance Reviews, RFIs and compliance cases and queries from Ofgem

      • Co-ordinate and manage regulatory submissions, ensuring timely delivery

      • Manage the flow of Ofgem queries to ensure that the relevant Regulatory Managers have sight of incoming communications and requests

      • Manage the Regulatory Risk Register and Assurance Tracker for the Consumer Regulation Team

      • Coordinate with the Regulatory Reporting Team and provide operational / business context to emerging themes and risks flagged by Ofgem

      • Secure internal sign-offs on all matters before being escalated for senior sign-off

      • Provide administrative and documentation management support for the team

      • Schedule stakeholder meetings, formalise agendas, record minutes and actively contribute to these meetings

      • Deal with all individual customer case referrals / escalations from third parties

      • As you develop in role, be able to provide expert regulatory support and advice

      • Support the delivery of regulatory policy change

      • Support advocacy and management of external relationships with the Regulator, industry bodies, Energy Ombudsman, competitors, consumer groups and trade associations

      • Engage with internal stakeholders to ensure that objectives and priorities are aligned at all times and to foster strong, mutually supportive relationships

      About You:

      • Business-facing experience in a regulatory (or process / customer journey) role or similar

      • A basic understanding of the regulatory / licensing frameworks governing the GB energy market

      • A high-level understanding of GB’s retail consumer protection legislation – including the rights of redress and of the regulatory decision-making processes

      • A good knowledge of the Government’s social, welfare, fuel poverty and vulnerability policies

      • Strong communicator who translates regulatory matters into concise and credible messages

      • Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment

      • Strong stakeholder management skills – both internal and external

      • Strong collaboration skills and a proven track record of delivery value

      • Excellent verbal, presentation and reasoning skills

      • Ability to build constructive relationships at all levels of an organisation

      • Excellent analytical and conceptual thinking skills

      • Experience of managing conflict, uncertainty and ambiguity

      • Strong (drafting and editing) writing skills

      • High competence in Office365 and confident user of MS Teams

      • Willing and able to adapt to change
