      Pay Range*: $39.89/hr. – $57.83/hr.

      Position Summary

      In collaboration with the attending rehabilitation physician, resident physician, rehabilitation treatment team, and external entities, coordinates and directions the collection, submission, and utilization of all data elements of the Inpatient Rehabilitation Facility-Patient Assessment Instrument (IRF-PAI) which determines an assigned Case Mix Group (CMG) for each patient with an average length of stay. Monitors the accuracy and reliability of medical record documentation to fulfill the requirements of the IRF-PAI. Trains nursing and ancillary staff on the functional assessment tool and other clinical assessments required in the IRF-PAI, producing data reports for Inpatient Rehabilitation Program Evaluation, Performance Improvement, and Program Marketing.

      Essential Functions and Responsibilities of the Job

      • Oversees, completes, and assures the accuracy and the completion of the Inpatient Rehabilitation Facility-Patient Assessment Instrument (IRF-PAI) prior to electronic transmission to the Uniform Data Systems-Medical Rehabilitation (UDS-MR) entity.
      • Ensures that documentation relative to the IRF-PAI is maintained according to federal and state regulations and the facility’s policy and procedure. Ensures that the clinical, financial, and medical record coding be in compliance prior to electronic transmission to UDS-MR.
      • Schedules and ensures electronic transmission of the IRF-PAI according to Centers of Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) Prospective Payment System (PPS) reimbursement policy.
      • Understands the Case Mix Group (CMG) Classification system and assures the appropriate documentation to support the treatment of the patient. Assists with concurrent monitoring of financial information and length of stay in relation to the CMG.
      • Provide consultation in the area of expertise (IRF-PAI/PPS) to case managers, social workers, liaison staff, and rehabilitation team as requested. Acts as an information systems liaison for IRF-PAI/UDS-PRO users. Orients, instructs, and trains additional personnel to coordinate, input, and transmit IRF-PAI information. Trains nursing/rehabilitation staff on the functional assessment and other clinical assessments required in the IRF-PAI.
      • Schedules and prepare interdisciplinary team conferences and assists facilitating the meeting in conjunction with the rehabilitation physician. Produces data reports for Inpatient Rehabilitation Program Evaluation/Performance Improvement/Program Marketing.
      • Assists in the development of new, different, or improved methods of collecting and analyzing data. Assists in monitoring compliance with regulatory and accreditation requirements.
      • Assumes a leadership role in preparation for surveys by regulatory bodies, i.e. JCAHO, CARF, and DHS. Attends meetings as requested.
      • Performs other duties as assigned.

      *Placement in the pay range is based on multiple factors including, but not limited to, relevant years of experience and qualifications.       Minimum Requirements

      Qualifications/Work Experience:

      • Minimum 3 years’ rehabilitation experience preferred.
      • EPIC experience preferred.
      • Knowledge and responsibility in IRF-PAI, CMG classification and PPS reimbursement preferred.
      • High level of verbal and written communication skills preferred.
      • Basic competency in the use of office equipment (i.e. computer, fax machine, copier) preferred.
      • Computer competency comprised of working knowledge of Windows or comparable system preferred.
      • Commitment to customer service and an ability to meet the needs and expectations of patients and healthcare colleagues preferred.

      Education/Licensure/Certification:

      • Current licensure and/or certification as a licensed vocational nurse (LVN), physical therapist, occupational therapist, speech and language pathologist, case manager, or social worker to practice in the state of California preferred.
      • Uniform Data System for Medical Rehabilitation (UDSmr) PPS certification preferred.
