Our Indigenous and Community Relations Regulatory and Operations team is seeking a dedicated Relations Advisor to enhance Suncor’s consultation and engagement efforts with Indigenous communities in our operating areas in the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo.

      In this role, you will build and maintain strong relationships with Indigenous communities, ensuring open and respectful communication. You will support formal Government of Alberta consultation processes by coordinating meetings, gathering feedback, and addressing community concerns. You will collaborate effectively with internal teams to support consultation and engagement efforts. You will support implementation of engagement strategies that foster mutual understanding and cooperation. Furthermore, you will monitor and report on engagement activities, providing insights and recommendations for continuous improvement.

      Minimum Requirements

      • Undergraduate degree in a Social Sciences field or equivalent combination of education and experience

      • Cultural agility and experience working with Indigenous communities

      • Strong communication skills and the ability to navigate relationships with sensitivity and empathy

      • Five years of relevant work experience including experience with formal consultation processes in Alberta

      • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage shifting priorities

      • Ability to collect, document, and present information to support formal consultation requirements (such as issue notes, policies, key messages, corporate disclosures, risk assessments) in a thoughtful and clear way

      Key Responsibilities

      Location & other key details

      • This is an office-based role; open to individuals to working from Suncor’s Fort McMurray (Stoney Creek Village) or Calgary (6th Ave S.W.) offices. The successful candidate will be expected to be working from the physical office location

      • Hours of work are a regular 40-hour work week, Monday to Friday, with potential for extended work/on-call hours based on business needs

      • Occasional travel will be required to communities in the Wood Buffalo Region and to Suncor’s operating sites to support consultation work, engagement activities, and events in community

      • Participate in on-call rotation for community notifications

      • Our business professional roles follow internal compensation guidelines, and the pay band will generally be based years of experience and scope of work
