      Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories Engineering Services (SEL-ES) seeks a Relay Commissioning Technician I w ho is interested in travelling and being the face of SEL to our customers. This position is a great opportunity for those specializing in Relay Technology to work alongside experts in commissioning and get the work experience to be an expert themselves!

      As a Relay Commissioning Tech, a typical day might include the following:

      • Installing, testing and commissioning protective relay and power system automation devices at customer sites and SEL offices.
      • Communicating with SEL devices to apply settings, troubleshoot protection schemes and validate in-service conditions.
      • Assist SEL engineers with creating design drawing packages in AutoCAD or Microstation at SEL offices.
      • Create detailed isolation, commission, test, restoration plans to be executed during field work
      • Create detailed relay test plans using RTS, Omicron or Doble secondary injection test sets, documenting and reporting malfunctions, and identifying/analyzing undesirable trends.
      • Training and assisting customers in the planning, design, testing, installation, commissioning, operation, and maintenance of electrical power systems, both at customer sites and SEL offices.
      • Applying working knowledge of SEL design practices of SEL protection and automation systems as well as quality standards.
      • Providing regular communication and timely reports to engineering staff, leadership and customers regarding commissioning activities.
      • Responsible for maintaining a safe workplace and implementing safe and environmentally sound work practice

      This job might be for you if:

      • Have an associate’s degree in Electrical Engineering Technology or equivalent certification, training and experience
      • Have 4+ years working experience in electrical power system planning, design, testing, installation, commissioning, operation and/or maintenance
      • Have a demonstrated proficiency in reading electrical schematics/wiring diagrams
      • Have a demonstrated proficiency with RTS, Autocad, Microstation, and/or AcSELerator Quickset and modern test equipment such as OMICRON or Doble
      • Are willing to travel up to 75% of the time
      • Have strong writing, documentation, and speaking skills
      • Have the ability to learn new skills and assume new responsibilities

      Physical Requirements

      Ability to work in outside environments with varying climates

      Ability to stand, walk, sit, bend, squat, climb, and use arm and hand movements

      Ability to carry tools and to handle materials and equipment of up to 50 pounds

      Ability to work at heights on lifts, and/or stepladders

      Pay Range Data

      Technician I: $28.00 - $35.00 per hour

      Technician 2: $33.00 - $40.00 per hour

      Technician 3: $37.00 - $46.00 per hour

      The salary range for this position applies to Lewis Center, OH. Our salary ranges are determined by job, responsibility, and location. We base our starting pay offer on location and job-related factors such as candidate experience, training, knowledge, and skills.
