      A Day in the Life

      As a Big Capital Engineer you will facilitate the quick resolution of any need of repair and installation of our Big Capital equipment which includes, but are not limited to: Hugo™ Robotic-Assisted Surgery system, O-arm™ intraoperative, D/3D imaging system and Mazor™ Robotic guidance system.

      You are responsible for ensuring that root causes are correctively identified, proposing corrective actions that will eliminate failure modes, ensuring corrective actions are taken and documented. You will develop processes for the testing, rework, repair, and disposition of all Service Returned products for the Big Capital OU’s. You may work with the OU’s Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality teams, including the Complaint department to establish product failures. You will also be responsible for complying with all local and global policies and procedures. This is an onsite position in Heerlen with 25% travel.

      Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned:

      • Perform and support a wide range of technical duties in electronic, mechanical, electromechanical, and optical areas, including full functional testing of capital equipment to ensure system compliance before shipment
      • Test, troubleshoot, calibrate, adjust, diagnose, and maintain devices, systems, and components; operate necessary machines, fixtures, and tools to support repair and testing processes
      • Handle return inventory tasks such as triage, tracking, preparation for failure investigation, and decontamination of returned parts
      • Lead and support lab activities, including crating/uncrating assemblies, managing spare parts, and performing additional assigned duties related to medical device manufacturing and repair
      • Serve as a subject matter expert on Class III medical devices, investigating product failures, identifying root causes, verifying corrective actions, and enhancing failure investigation strategies and technical management efforts
      • Collaborate across cross-functional, multi-site teams—including R&D, Quality, Regulatory, Procurement, and Manufacturing—to drive resolution of complex failure investigations and influence outcomes through effective communication
      • Utilize statistical techniques to support root cause conclusions, manage complex testing and qualification experiments, generate reports, and train employees on advanced procedures and investigation methodologies

      Required Knowledge and Experience:

      • Bachelor’s degree
      • Experience in managing and serving in a technical role
      • Experience with complex mechanical system
      • Extensive knowledge and understanding of theories and concepts relevant to engineering, especially product development, manufacturing engineering, and failure modes
      • Experience with a variety of software packages, e.g., Agile, SAP, etc.
