What to Expect (Job Responsibilities):
- Review medical records to identify relevant diagnoses and procedures
- Assign diagnostic and procedural codes using ICD-10 CM/PCS coding systems
- Abstract information from medical records based on client guidelines
- Seek clarification from physicians regarding ambiguous or conflicting documentation
- Mentor new coders and provide education and training
What is Required (Qualifications):
- Must possess CCS, RHIT, and/or RHIA credential
- Minimum of 1 year of inpatient facility coding experience
- Extensive knowledge of ICD-10 CM/PCS coding principles and guidelines, DRG assignment, and federal, state, and payor-specific regulations
- Strong understanding of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, surgical technology, pharmacology, and disease processes
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
How to Stand Out (Preferred Qualifications):
- 2 years of experience in inpatient trauma coding
- Experience in a healthcare-related service
