      The Chilkoti Laboratory at Duke University is a multidisciplinary team with a strong focus on creating low-cost, point-of-care diagnostics and leveraging polymer technology for clinically significant applications. As a member of The Chilkoti Laboratory, the Research & Development Engineer, I will support the lab in groundbreaking, NIH-funded research in developing a point-of-care diagnostic platform for early and accurate breast cancer detection in limited resource settings. This project offers a unique opportunity for research exploration and scientific development in an academic setting.

      Responsibilities:

      • Conducting complex laboratory experiments using state-of-the-art equipment and software, obtaining data sets, and presenting experimental results.
      • Collaborating with team members to review work assignments, develop research experiment plans, and modify existing procedures and techniques as needed for various studies.
      • Reviewing laboratory methods, manuals, scientific journals, abstracts, and other literature for information applicable to research experiments.
      • Dissemination of results in the form of peer-reviewed publications, presentations, and abstracts is expected.

      Skills:

      • Wet lab experience, including familiarity with pipettes, centrifuges, handling hazardous chemical/biological substances, and observing appropriate safety precautions.
      • A willingness and aptitude for learning quickly on the job.
      • A history demonstrating experience in scientific writing and effective collaboration.
      • Substantial scientific experience in the relevant field.

      *Candidates with a Master’s or PhD are preferred*

      Minimum Qualifications

      Education

      Work requires a thorough knowledge of the principles of engineering and related natural sciences acquired through completion of a Bachelor's degree program in an Engineering science or a related natural science such as Physics or Chemistry. Due to professional exemption, equivalent experience cannot be substituted for bachelor's degree.
