      SUMMARY
      Kansas City Kansas Community College (KCKCC) is seeking a librarian to develop and promote the growth of undergraduate research and library services, including outreach and training to support the campus community on topics such as copyright, fair use, and open access. The librarian oversees Interlibrary Loan (ILL), the borrowing and lending of materials between library systems and the MOBIUS consortium.

      POSITION DESCRIPTION

      • Communicates best practices in support of undergraduate research and information literacy with the campus community.
      • Reviews curriculum and reaches out to teaching faculty to expand research instruction for both on campus and distance education students.
      • Keeps current with developments in pedagogy, librarianship, online instruction, Open Educational Resources (OER), and relevant technologies.
      • Works as part of a team to develop, teach, and assess information literacy instruction sessions.
      • Prepares course-specific materials to support students’ research needs and instructional materials utilizing current technologies.
      • Assists with the coordination of day-to-day tasks related to library instruction, scheduling, and referrals.
      • Develops modules, tutorials, and workshops to support utilization of library resources.
      • Works with the library team to develop and maintain the KCKCC library collection.
      • Helps during specific hours at the library’s help desk and participates in Ask-a-Librarian, responding to inquiries via email, text, chat, phone, and in-person.
      • Actively participates in strategic planning to align departmental services with institutional mission.
      • Consults with faculty and staff on co-curricular assessment and program planning activities in support of Library Services.
      • Participates in campus committees, serves as a liaison to assigned academic divisions, and works on special projects, as appropriate.
      • Performs other duties as assigned.

      KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

      • Must be able to work autonomously and collaboratively to support learners across three campus locations, in traditional, online, and blended environments.
      • Must be able to learn new technology quickly, grasp the impact it has on information literacy and research, and be able to utilize for the advancement of the ever-evolving library environment.
      • Experience working with Open Access and Open Educational Resources.
      • Knowledgeable regarding copyright laws, fair use standards, intellectual property, privacy, and web content accessibility guidelines.
      • Committed to ongoing professional development, through continuing education, attendance at professional conferences, webinars, and literature to keep abreast of emerging trends, technology, and best practices in the field.
      • Must possess exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
      • Customer service mindset that is flexible and adept at working in a rapidly changing environment that may be ambiguous and complex.
      • Ability to work with a variety of individuals, including students, staff and faculty with an understanding and an appreciation for the philosophy and mission of an urban, open-door, comprehensive community college.

      MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

      • MLS or MLIS at time of appointment from an ALA accredited institution. Consideration will be given for candidates currently completing a program of study.
      • Demonstrated understanding of issues and trends in reference and information literacy. Experience providing user training and/or instruction.
      • Proficiency using Microsoft Office suite.

      PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

      • Knowledge of best practices in instructional design, curriculum mapping, and assessment of student learning.
      • Two to three (2-3) years’ professional experience in an academic library, post-secondary setting.
      • Experience with Springshare products.
      • Experience with Blackboard and/or other learning management systems.

      WORK SCHEDULE
      35 hours per week, during regular hours of Monday – Thursday (8:00 AM – 8:00 PM) and Friday (8:00 AM – 4:00 PM). Must be able to work a variable schedule/hour to meet operational needs. May require evening and weekend hours.
