      This research based at Montreal Neurological Institute-Hospital (The Neuro; McGill University) aims to validate tests (biomarkers) to identify the presence of age-related diseases (i.e., Alzheimer’s disease) before the symptom onset. The Research Assistant 1 is a key role for the collection of data in the TRIAD cohort throughout its various projects.

      Job duties and responsibilities:

      Conducting research projects

      • Following the laboratory’s established protocols and procedures in consultation with the study administrator and will be responsible for the quality and results of their own work
      • Providing technical assistance to students in the execution of tasks related to research projects
      • Implementing recommended improvements to existing protocols
      • Administrating questionnaires and cognitive testing
      • Contacting participants to complete files when information is missing/to collect additional data
      • Conducting screening interviews with participants to confirm eligibility
      • Preparing all laboratory equipment for patient visit
        • Printing entire study file and documents
        • Labelling all study documents and giving them to the research nurse
        • Preparing and printing labels for all vials
        • Arranging matrix boxes according to participant visit
      • Maintenance and organization of matrix database
        • Entering information into the database with correctly identifying information and ensure everything is updated in real time (database curatorship)
        • Updating queries to reflect status of the database
        • Ensuring that all participant results are received and kept in order
        • Advising the research administrator when results are missing and following up to ensure complete results are uploaded and filed
      • Maintaining and updating laboratory supplies inventory
        • Regularly assessing laboratory inventory
        • Alerting the research administrator when results are running low
      • Assisting the research administrator in shipment of international samples
      • Arranging the inventory to international shipments to collaborators
      • Data entry on new platform to ensure accurate entry of data
      • Assisting with uploading of all electronic sheets from paper files


      Qualifications:

      • Undergraduate degree in a health-related discipline
      • Bilingual French and English is mandatory (Spoken and Written – Asset if familiar in scientific writing)
      • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office
      • Excellent oral/written communication skills
      • Ability to work independently with accuracy
      • Strong organization and interpersonal skills
      • Experience in a research laboratory is an asset

      Knowledge of French and English: McGill University is an English-language university where day to day duties may require English communication both verbally and in writing. The level of English required for this position has been assessed at a level 3 on a scale of 0-4.
