Job Description
- Req#: R-085083
- Prepare samples for analysis, which includes entering information about the samples received from experiments and/or clients into project database, labeling samples appropriately, drying and grinding samples, and packing samples into instrument cups for near infrared reflectance spectroscopy (NIRS) scanning.
- Operate near infrared reflectance spectroscopy (NIRS) instruments for sample processing and conduct daily quality control for samples that are processed.
- Enters results from sample analysis into project databases.
- Participate in field work, research studies, and off-site field data collection.
- Maintain a clean, organized lab environment and follow all lab protocols.
- Perform other job-related duties as required.
- Assist with outreach or extension events such as field days or workshops.
- Travel for field data collection or collaborative research projects.
- Bachelor’s degree in Animal Science, Range Science, Wildlife, Agronomy, or a related discipline or equivalent combination of education and experience.

- Experience working in a laboratory setting.
- Experience following standard protocols for laboratory analysis.
- Experience in working with livestock or wildlife.
- Familiarity with research lab work and instrumentation.
- Familiarity with laboratory equipment, and typical computer software for word processing or record keeping.
- Good communication and computer skills.
- Ability to be a team player
- Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others.
- Ability to work in extreme hot or cold environments.
- Ability to work periodically on weekends.
- Ability to travel to field sites for a period of 5 to 7 days at a time (travel is less than 15% of time for this position).
- Ability to work in outdoor conditions and handle livestock during sample collection.
- Desire to serve the ranching and natural resource professions.
