Job Summary
Established in 2005 as a joint initiative of Harvard Medical School (HMS) and the Harvard School of Public Health (HSPH), The Center for Surgery and Public Health (CSPH) has been at the forefront of public health research of surgical care delivery within and throughout our nation’s healthcare system. Utilizing innovative research methodologies grounded in clinical reality, we have developed surgical safety checklists, created a national agenda for surgical disparities research, and launched the pioneering work of rising stars in surgical health services research. We are advancing the science of surgical care delivery by studying effectiveness, quality, equity, and value at the population level and training the most gifted of a new generation of physician-scientists. Together our efforts are making surgery safer, more patient-centered and more accessible in the U.S. and around the world.

The Research Assistant I will play a key role in high-impact trauma surgery projects that examine access to care across the trauma continuum, with a particular focus on underserved communities. This mixed-methods study combines rigorous quantitative analysis of prospectively collected data with in-depth qualitative research using semi-structured interviews. The RA I may also contribute to additional studies or initiatives as they arise, supporting the broader research mission of the team.
Qualifications
GENERAL SUMMARY:

The RA I may also contribute to additional studies or initiatives as they arise, supporting the broader research mission of the team.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Support the implementation of clinical and research studies in accordance with protocols and regulatory requirements. Recruit and screens study participants and conduct, schedule interviews, and manage participant communications. Collect, enter, and maintain confidential study data; perform quality checks and basic analyses using tools such as REDCap. Develop and update study materials, including surveys, interview guides, and project documentation. Prepare study-related deliverables such as presentations, reports, and meeting materials. Maintain regulatory documents, including IRB submissions and updates. Coordinate logistics, monitors office equipment, and addresses study-related inquiries. Communicate project status and findings to stakeholders; promotes study activities via digital platforms when appropriate. Perform additional research and administrative duties as needed to support the research team. Assist the PI in preparation of grant submission documents.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s degree required.
0-1 yr of related, research experience.
SKILLS/ABILITIES/COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:
• Excellent interpersonal skills are required for working with the study participants.
• Good oral and written communication skills.
• Knowledge of computer programs such as excel, word, outlook etc.
• Excellent organizational skills and ability to prioritize a variety of tasks.
• Careful attention to detail.
• Ability to demonstrate professionalism and respect for subjects’ rights and individual needs.
