Must feel comfortable and confident when handling hazardous substances: physical (sharps), biological (human tissue and fluids), and chemical (formaldehyde, dry ic,e and liquid nitrogen).
Ability to follow set protocols and procedures for embedding and performing microtomy on paraffin and/or frozen tissues, perform special stains and/or immunohistochemistry on paraffin/frozen slides, and maintain fresh solutions, stains, and/or reagents for lab equipment.
Strongly prefer experience in a histology laboratory or 3 years of clinical laboratory experience.
Strongly prefer ASCP-HT- Histotechnician or ASCP-HTL-Histotechnologist certification.
Process specimens and conduct clinical research.
Receives patient specimens from the investigator and prepares for testing. This may include cutting blocks or preparing and/or staining of slides.
Conducts laboratory testing as ordered by the investigator and in accordance with trial protocols.
Produces test results and enters data accordingly.
Informs the investigator of test results or any abnormalities or complications during testing.
Report any deviations or incidents from protocol.
Assists senior research associates with various laboratory duties as requested.
Maintains laboratory space, including cleaning and stocking workstations.
Assists with instrument validation, ensuring adequate supplies for testing are on hand, and ordering additional lab supplies as necessary.
Records laboratory equipment readings such as temperature, maintenance logs, etc.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Summary of Job Duties:
The Research Assistant (RA) processes biological specimens, performs research experiments, analyzes data, and presents results to the investigator. This position will maintain appropriate records for research activities, which may include equipment logs, experiment data, analysis documents, and any protocol deviations. The RA will perform data management activities, including filing documents, data entry, archiving documents, etc, and coordinate research trial activity, including scheduling of tests, exams, or other experiments. Lastly, the RA ensures that the integrity and quality of basic and translational research are maintained.
Qualifications:Bachelor of Science degree in biology, chemistry, or related scientific field plus three (3) years of research experience required.
