The Center for Depression Research and Clinical Care has an opening for the position of Research Assistant II. We are looking for an individual with lab experience in molecular biology and immunology to participate in ongoing clinical and molecular work. In addition, an ability to conduct literature reviews, data analysis, and support manuscript preparation is essential.
Preferred Job Duties
· Process biospecimen collected from research participants.
· Assist with biobank processing, sample processing (processing for plasma, serum and peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs), and quality control.
· Record, classify, and summarize research data according to established procedures.
· Conduct immunology studies including protein isolation (tissue) protein assay, ELISA, and Flow Cytometry.
· Conduct molecular lab procedures including DNA/RNA isolation, qPCR, and genotyping.
· Carry out data quality control and data processing of experimental data sets.
· Contribute to the preparation of data.
· Conduct literature reviews and synthesize findings.
· Perform other related tasks as outlined by the researcher.
Preferred Qualifications
· Master’s degree with coursework and lab experience in molecular biology, immunology or microbiology and at least 1 year of laboratory experience at the level of research assistant 1 or equivalent.
Job Duties
· Plans, coordinates, and supervises assigned research projects, which may be limited as segment of larger project, exercising responsibility for project performance and accountability for progress; and/or personally performs advanced scientific and medical research work, suggesting modifications to, or improvements in, design of research projects, presenting original ideas for follow-up studies, and recommending utilization of new or revised techniques and procedures to obtain desired results.
· Constructs, assembles, and operates experimental or other specially designed laboratory apparatus and equipment.
· Assembles and analyzes research data.
· Assists in preparation of material for reports or publication.
· May supervise group of Research Technicians and/or Research Assistants of lower grade, making work assignments, advising on work procedures, and reviewing work in process and upon completion.
· Performs other duties as assigned.
Experience and Education
· Master’s degree with major coursework in field of assignment and one (1) year of experience as Research Assistant I or equivalent. OR
· Bachelor's degree with major coursework in field of assignment and two (2) years of experience, including one (1) year as Research Assistant I or equivalent. OR
· Completion of two (2) years of college or specialized training in histology, serology, medical technology, etc. and five (5) years of experience, including one (1) year as Research Assistant I or equivalent. OR
· High school graduate including courses in basic sciences and seven (7) years of experience, including one (1) year as Research Assistant I or equivalent.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
· Work requires thorough working knowledge of various types of equipment used in laboratory to which assigned.
· Work requires extreme accuracy and precision in all phases of experimental investigation.
· Work requires exercise of considerable judgment in application and interpretation of policy, procedures, or practices to work problems.
