      UKCEH is looking for a Research Associate Environmental Social Scientist to join our 600-strong team, contributing to scientific discovery and generating the data, insights and solutions that researchers, businesses and governments need to solve complex environmental challenges.

      You’ll be joining our Population Ecology Group within our acclaimed Biodiversity Science Area , doing incredible research . You will have the opportunity to join our teams working on interdisciplinary projects in the UK and India understanding and improving the science-policy interface around nature conservation and zoonotic diseases, including OneHealth multi-sectoral approaches and the interaction between conservation, human and animal health.

      Ecosystems are under pressure worldwide and there is a need to develop more integrated plans to understand and increase their value to society in a sustainable way. This requires that we minimise conflict between economic and cultural sectors of society, which may arise because of trade-offs between users’ needs. To achieve our goals you’ll work closely with key stakeholders to alleviate conflicts and work towards sustainable use of biodiversity and interventions for Public and Animal Health.

      Your main responsibilities will include:

      • Co-design, implement and analyse questionnaires

      • Undertak ing semi-structured and ethnographic interviews with stakeholder groups and individuals

      • Transcription and analysis using thematic and content coding approaches

      • Organisation of stakeholder workshops in the UK and India

      • Conduct systematic reviews and disease policy analysis

      • Communication of science to peers and other stakeholders using appropriate techniques (e.g. posters, oral presentations, reports, refereed publications, workshops, popular science articles).

      • Participation in research group meetings.

      The team are currently working on some fantastic projects! These include OPTICK , TickSolve and India Zoo Risk .

      For the role of Research Associate Environmental Social Scientist , we’re looking for somebody who has :

      • A masters or an equivalent qualification/experience in a relevant social science or political science discipline.

      • Experience in undertaking a relevant research projects

      • Previously conducted interviews with stakeholders, particularly about policy, conservation or public health

      • Designed questionnaires for research, particularly in policy-interfaces, conservation or public health

      • Experience in qualitative and quantitative data analysis appli ed to research, particularly in policy-interfaces, conservation or public health

      • Knowledge of OneHealth issues in international and LMIC contexts

      • An understanding of the wider context of scientific area and how these fits into the international picture

      • Skills in implementing participatory methods such as key informant interviews or self-completion including some experience of applicable qualitative and quantitative analysis techniques

      • The ability to effectively communicate science to peers and other stakeholders using appropriate techniques including contributions to refereed publications (e.g. posters, oral presentations, reports, refereed publications, workshops, popular science articles)
