      Description

      TGen, the Translational Genomics Research Institute, a part of City of Hope is an Arizona-based, nonprofit medical research institute dedicated to conducting groundbreaking research with life-changing results. We work to unravel the genetic components of common and complex diseases, including cancer, neurological disorders, infectious disease, and rare childhood disorders. By identifying treatment options in this manner, we believe medicine becomes more rational, more precise and, well, more personal.


      We are looking for a highly motivated individual to fill the position of Research Associate in the laboratory Dr. Michael Berens. This 2 year position is ideal for an energetic recent graduate wanting to get research experience prior to medical or graduate school. The focus of our lab is to study the genomics of glioblastoma to determine signatures of vulnerability that can lead to the deployment of more effective therapeutics for patients with this brain cancer. The successful candidate will perform experiments to investigate the activity and mechanism of action of new anti-cancer agents in preclinical models including cultured cancer cells,

      organoids, and mouse models.


      The Research Associate will be expected to perform all duties related to prescribed experiments including execution, data collection and analysis, general laboratory responsibilities, and assisting/mentoring colleagues and/or interns.


      Specific duties of the Research Associate include:

      1. Plan, prepare, execute, and troubleshoot designed experiments, including data

      collection & analysis, evaluating/interpreting test results, developing conclusions

      2. Keep up-to-date detailed logs of the experiments and report scientific findings through

      write-ups, presentations, posters, and manuscripts

      3. Communicate results and updates to team members

      4. Conduct Quality Control (QC) analysis

      5. Sample tracking and inventory updates

      6. Order and organize lab supplies

      7. Maintain clean equipment and organized lab environment

      8. Attend meetings, presentations, seminars

      9. Assisting/mentoring colleagues and/or interns

      Requirements

      Bachelor's Degree in Biological Sciences or related field (Biology, Molecular, and Cellular Biology, Genetics).

      ? Preferred job experience includes cell culture, biochemical assays, histology and animal (rodent) studies. The candidate will need to work independently to run his/her own study upon completion of training

      ? Experience with desktop computing for data entry: Microsoft Office, Google GSuite, statistical and graphical software packages

      ? Experience with biotech equipment (i.e. thermocyclers, spectrophotometers, microscopes, centrifuges)

      ? Other desirable techniques include flow cytometry, tissue processing, immunostaining, PCR, sequencing, real-time PCR, immunoblots, construction of sequencing libraries
