We are building new capabilities to support our growth in immunology and autoimmune diseases, and we have an exciting opportunity for an in vivo scientist looking to help bring new medicines to patients.

      As a part of a growing in vivo Bioscience team within the Early R&I department, we are seeking a highly motivated research associate with diverse laboratory skills to join our collaborative team. This candidate would ideally have experience in immunology or related subject area. This is a lab-based position. The role will initially be based in Waltham, MA within AstraZeneca’s state-of-the-art laboratories where you will follow the science to help drive innovation and advance medicine to help improve patient lives. In 2026 we will be located at the new innovative facilities in Kendall Square Cambridge.

      Main Duties and Responsibilities

      In this role, you will be an experimental scientist within Early Respiratory and Immunology Department focusing on developing therapeutics for the treatment of immune and autoimmune diseases such as SLE, colitis and arthritis using mouse models. You will generate preclinical and translational data in support of key portfolio programs and drive technical excellence in bioscience research. Expertise in flow cytometry, multiplex cytokine read-outs, qPCR is critical. The role will sometimes involve implementing protocols over timelines that extend outside of normal working patterns.

      • Excellent hands-on in vivo skills including administering candidate drugs and collecting a range biological samples in mice.

      • Responsible for maintaining the highest standards of animal welfare and ethical compliance as well as data integrity.

      • Contribute to the evaluation and interpretation of primary data as well as writing reports and summaries.

      • Supporting drug discovery projects to meet their objectives by acting as an effective and creative team member.

      Requirements

      • Relevant degree in biology, immunology or relevant discipline is required with a bachelor or master’s degree and 2+ years of relevant industry experience required.

      • Highly organized and self-motivated, with the ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team to conduct a high-level research project is crucial.

      • Previous experience with mouse handling, dosing, tissue collection and processing is essential.

      • Previous in-vivo work on mouse models of autoimmune disease is strongly preferred.

      • Strong hands-on skills in basic biochemical and molecular techniques such as quantification of mRNA (qPCR), multi-panel flow cytometry (including both intracellular and extracellular markers) and protein expression; ELISA, Western blot, MSD, Luminex are strongly preferred. .

      • Strong written and oral communication skills.
