      A Day in the Life…

      The Research Awards & Scholarships Specialist works to support graduate student scholarship administration and success. They are responsible for coordinating the University's major graduate scholarship initiatives, determining student eligibility, and advising students regarding funding opportunities. This role works closely with University partners in Research Services, Donor Relations, graduate programs, and Faculties, as well as with all functional teams in the Faculty of Graduate Studies (FGS), to provide timely, accurate and effective support to graduate students for building successful scholarship applications and achievement of external awards. The Specialist builds key relationships with external partners to develop and promote novel graduate student scholarships and experiences. They are also responsible to research and implement new scholarship opportunities that support underrepresented groups, promoting equity, diversity and inclusion for graduate students.

      As the Research Awards & Scholarships Specialist, you will:

      • Develop, recommend and assist with implementation of processes, policies, and procedures to enhance scholarship awarding;
      • Manage internal award programs that require confirmation of student eligibility and interprets complex rules, regulations and policies;
      • Create and administer Term of Reference documentation and timelines for adjudication committees;
      • Promote awareness of scholarship opportunities for graduate students, and scholarships for specific programs/disciplines through webpages, social media, and other marketing and communications;
      • Provide guidance and up-to-date information to students, Faculty, and graduate program directors on all matters relating to internal and external graduate scholarships/awards;
      • Understand EDI requirements of external scholarship granting agencies and work with students to enhance applications;
      • Collect and analyze scholarship data relative to scholarship awarding;
      • Compile and report metrics on a term basis to assess the University’s performance in awarding institutional and external awards;
      • Maintain general knowledge of all funding agencies applicable to Graduate Students;
      • Develop a record-tracking system required to ensure continued qualification of students on scholarships;
      • Maintain data related to external awards and funding;
      • Support Graduate Student Engagement Projects.

      What you need to Succeed…

      • Graduate degree in a relevant field or equivalent experience;
      • A minimum of three to five years experience in financial aid and/or scholarship administration, preferably in a post-secondary environment with graduate programs;
      • A minimum of three to five years experience with oversight of scholarships, awards, and funding agencies and program development.
      • Thorough knowledge and experience with external scholarship granting agencies (i.e., Tri-Agency) regulations and guidelines;
      • Knowledge base of the Brock graduate student experience, programs, services, and scholarships; and
      • Advanced skills in MS Office 365 (including MS Word and Excel) and Superior skills with Student Information Systems;
      • Strong understanding of University administrative guidelines, as well as external regulations, policies and procedures that impact Universities;
      • Proven ability to deal with sensitive and complex situations, ensuring confidentiality;
      • Proven ability to communicate and build rapport, relationships, and credibility;
      • Exceptional communication skills, verbal and written;
      • Ability to provide and promote excellent student service coupled with the ability to coach, mentor, and motivate students;
      • Ability to synthesize, analyze, and interpret complex information, University policies, procedures, and regulations;
      • Critical and complex problem-solving skills to accurately interpret written and policy guidelines, working through conflicting regulations and policies.

      Salary and Benefit Information

      • Job Grade (K), Salary Scale ($54,348-$73,171)*;
      • This position includes full comprehensive benefits including tuition waiver.

      *The salary range indicated is representative of all positions evaluated at this level. Actual salary is determined by assessing related skills, experience, internal equity and market competitiveness, subject to available budget.
