      This position provides the opportunity to apply thermal/fluid modeling methodologies and analysis techniques to drive the design and development of Ford’s future electrified powertrains.

      Qualifications

      The minimum requirements we seek:

      • M. S. in Mechanical Engineering or related field
      • 2 + years working with 3D CFD tools STAR-CCM+, Fluent, Converge or similar
      • 2+ years experience with CAD tools such as Teamcenter, CATIA and integration of models to computational mesh
      • 2+ years minimum working experience in thermal analysis supporting product development

      Our preferred qualifications:

      • Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering or related field
      • Mature perspective of finite volume concepts in adequate meshing resolution, solution accuracy, convergence, boundary condition setup, transient modeling, turbulence model selection.
      • Experience with multi-physics modeling tools, GT-Suite, COMSOL
      • Experience with coding languages, MATLAB
      • Experience in Ford Product development systems and tools
      • Expert-level fluid dynamics, heat transfer and combustion knowledge
      • Experience in 3D conjugate heat transfer modeling for system thermal management
      • Proven capability in developing high fidelity models and conducting model correlations with various test teams
      • Experience in system-parameter optimization and utilization of machine learning methods for robust product design
      • Demonstrated cross-functional teamwork experience, interacting with CAE, test, and manufacturing engineers to provide optimum product design recommendations.
      • 2+ years experience in fuel cell stack, component, and/or system modeling
      • 2+ years experience in high voltage battery component and/or system modeling
      • Able to work as Hybrid work model.

      Responsibilities

      What you’ll be able to do:

      • Perform 3D thermal/CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) analysis on the system, subsystem and component level using commercial CAE/CFD software.
      • Apply CAD tools to create meshes for 3D fluid flow simulation.
      • Apply CFD for battery cell thermal runaway, thermal propagation, and associated cell vent gas management. Propose and analyze countermeasures and design improvements.
      • Apply CFD to support fuel-cell subsystem and component design, high voltage battery pack thermal management.
      • Work with product development teams to support analytical needs for system optimization, development milestones, problem solving.
      • Work with physical testing activities to enhance model predictability, model correlation & validation
      • Interface with software vendors for new modeling methodology development
