      Ford’s Research and Advanced Engineering team explores new vehicle and societal innovations that require some level of invention before they can be applied to our products and services. The team is building on a history of Ford innovation, including our invention of the three-way catalytic converter to modernize vehicle emissions controls in the 1970s and the world’s first rear inflatable seat belts in 2010.

      The summer intern will work within Ford’s global research center in Dearborn alongside engineers and scientists.

      The role is Mon-Fri, 40 hours/week on site at the Ford Research & Innovation Center in Dearborn, Michigan

      Qualifications

      What are we looking for?

      • Must be currently enrolled in university, majoring in a technical field (i.e., engineering, materials science, math, computer science).
      • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Powerpoint.
      • Must be available to work primarily on site in Dearborn, MI.
      • Minimum GPA of 3.0

      Responsibilities

      This intern position will have the opportunity to work within the Coatings & Surfaces Research team and closely aligned with the Advanced Metal Technology team, focused on the coating, sealing, and corrosion protection for an aluminum casting in a galvanized steel vehicle body. This is an awesome opportunity to get get hands on experience and mentorship by some of the brightest engineers and scientists in the industry.

      Intern responsibilities will include laboratory-based corrosion testing, coating characterization, and metallographic analysis, and data analysis. Culmination of the project will include a presentation to senior management.
