      Research Entomologist - Scientist II

      Be part of a cross-functional team that performs eco-toxicological testing and risk assessments critical to obtaining and maintaining registrations for crop protection products developed through the use of biotechnology.

      YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES


      The primary responsibilities of this role, Research Entomologist – Scientist II, are to:

      • Develop and implement global ecological risk assessment (ERA) strategies for non-target arthropods (NTAs) that reflect evolving scientific and political expectations to support product registrations;
      • Develop and implement global ERA strategy of biotechnology-derived insect control products to enable successful product launch and defense;
      • Design and monitor NTA toxicity studies following the tiered approach, conduct threatened and endangered species assessments, and summarize information in ERA reports;
      • Ensure that customer’s demands on studies and risk assessments are fulfilled with high quality, cost efficiency, and in a timely manner;
      • Support global ERA strategy by gaining alignment and training to enable country specific product launches;
      • Address agency and academic questions around ecotoxicology, NTA testing, and ERA of products with sound and supported scientific responses;
      • Stay abreast of scientific and political developments relevant to U.S., OECD, and global regulatory guidelines for environmental safety assessments of plant-incorporated protectants;
      • Drive peer-reviewed publications in accordance with product strategy;
      • Represent Bayer’s support for science-based ERA internally and externally with industry, academia, government and public stakeholders:
      • Position entails driving a pooled company vehicle.

      Required Qualifications:

      • Ph.D. OR Master’s degree;
      • Experience designing and conducting field studies and/or laboratory studies to assess potential adverse effects on insects;
      • Ability to conceptualize, design, and execute experiments that address ecotoxicological questions;
      • Functional knowledge of biostatistics, experimental design, exposure assessment, and analytical methodology;
      • Track record of being strategic and innovative while demonstrating competencies in problem solving, analytical thinking, and ability to analyze complex data;
      • Agility to work on multiple projects in a team environment, and lead through influence to meet business objectives;
      • Excellent oral and written communication (including presentation) skills, to ensure that project plans and status are transparent, and that risks, issues, and results are clear to all involved parties;
      • Strong ability to partner in a matrix structure while gathering decision information, negotiating, and communicating decisions and action, and the leading by influence across multiple functions;
      • Strong project and time management skills;
      • Ability to travel independently both domestically and internationally up to 10%;
      • Valid driver’s license. Driving record (MVR) will be reviewed and must meet guidelines based on the company’s Risk Screening for Hiring Drivers.


      Preferred Qualifications:

      • Six or more years of relevant experience in entomology, ecotoxicology or related discipline (includes post-undergraduate experience in academia and/or industry);
      • Experience conducting ecological risk assessments for products and strong working knowledge of GLP regulatory requirements;
      • General proficiency in insect taxonomy (e.g., identifying insects at least to the family level);
      • Knowledge and/or experience interacting with regulatory authorities and issues management;
      • Experience with U.S. and/or EU ecotoxicology test guidelines and risk assessment approaches for crop protection products including endangered species risk assessment.

      Domestic or International relocation may be available for this role.

      Position will be located in Chesterfield, Missouri (St. Louis area).

      May include opportunity to work in hybrid model up to 40% remote.
