      POSITION SUMMARY:

      A postdoctoral research fellowship is available in the Polley lab at Massachusetts Eye and Ear. The fellow will be responsible for leading experiments on the mechanisms and perceptual consequences of auditory sensorimotor integration

      ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

      The candidate would maintain transgenic mouse lines and express exogenous proteins in the mouse brain via virus mediated gene transfer. The candidate would perform multi-regional neural recordings and functional circuit perturbations. The candidate would perform behavioral testing. The candidate would analyze imaging and neurophysiology data and develop summary figures for conference presentations and scientific manuscripts. The candidate would work with the PI to write manuscripts on their findings. The candidate would be expected to rely upon their extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Performs a variety of tasks. May lead and direct the work of others. A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected.

      WORKING CONDITIONS:

      Spends time between the wet laboratory, the animal housing facility, and an office adjacent to the laboratory, equipped with a personal computer for data entry and analysis.

      EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

      A PhD in neuroscience or a related field will be required, plus one year of experience. Experience with computer programming, small animal surgery, mouse husbandry, transgenic colony management, neurophysiology, auditory signal processing, auditory clinical disorders and advanced data analysis methods are strongly preferred.

      PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

      Able to work with animals (rodents), lifting animal cages onto a cart, performing routine animal injections, assisting in animal surgery. Manipulates fine surgical instruments, perform routine animal injections, and assist in animal surgery. Load cages onto a cart and transport them between the animal facility and the laboratory.
