      Job summary

      Are you a nursing or maternity health care support worker looking for a change and good work-life balance? The Womens and Childrens Research Unit is currently looking for a new member to join the team to assist, under supervision, a range of maternity, gynaecology and NICU studies. This role will be particularly suited to a person with strong administrative and clinical skills.

      The Research Healthcare Support Worker will assist, under supervision, other members of the Women's & Children's Research Unit in the conduct of a range of research studies, with the team at St Michaels focused on gynaecology, maternity and NICU studies.

      S/he will assist within the research delivery support team with administrative roles e.g. maintaining patient study records, coordinating appointments, document management, entering of study data into databases and stock control. S/he will work alongside research midwives and nurses, working with women and their babies/children, undertaking clinical assessments as required by studies, and managing samples and preparing them for collection. There may also be opportunities to support the wider team delivering paediatric studies.

      Main duties of the job

      Clinical

      • Clinical observations and care appropriate to role and experience.
      • Venepuncture in adults.
      • Assist research staff to obtain capillary or cord blood samples from neonates.
      • Assist in the vaccination of adults and children.
      • Assist with and perform the process of sample handling including documentation, storage and transportation according to standard operating procedures.
      • Maintain and check study equipment and assist in supplies management and maintenance of relevant logs
      • Assist with data handling, including completion of study documentation and use of databases.
      • Maintain patient and study confidentiality according to good clinical practice and current data protection requirements

      Non clinical

      • Assist the research delivery support team in office related duties, including coordinating appointments, document management, data entry, and archiving.
      • Maintain equipment according to Trust Policies.
      • Assist in the maintenance and ordering of supplies/stock required by the team.
      • Support team in identifying potential participants
      • Participate in regular team meetings keeping informed of the research studies currently being undertaken by the Unit.
      • Raise any study related concerns, issues or ideas with the tea
