      Position Highlights

      RII Core Facilities at the University of Arizona is in search of a Research Professional I. Primary responsibility will be to facilitate transgenic mouse genotyping services at the Arizona Genetics Core. The person in this position will work with investigators to optimize gene-specific assays and will accept samples for processing in our laboratory. This position will be responsible for performing a wide variety of skilled laboratory procedures including sample handling and transferring specimens with electronic, multi-channel pipettes, working with robotic platforms for sample processing, performing PCR assays and data QC/review.

      Duties & Responsibilities

      Duties & responsibilities:

      • Plans, collates and formulates research methods. Consults with investigators and facility management to design testing workflows. Conducts technical components of research projects according to established research plan. Follows established protocols for isolation of nucleic acids (DNA/RNA), sample QC, and genotyping by PCR. Operates and manages laboratory equipment including pipettes, QC instruments, and PCR machines, Collects, reviews and analyzes genetic data.
      • Contributes to ensuring compliance of all performed laboratory work as required by regulatory organizations within the University and applicable regulatory agencies to maintain our facility credentials. Detailed record keeping and operation of the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS). Authoring and maintenance of relevant Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
      • Communicates and consults with researchers and core facility team to conduct high-throughput processing of specimens. Use of iLab Operations platform to communicate with investigators and to deliver prepared analysis and report scientific data.
      • Identifies workflow improvements, performs technical troubleshooting and proposes solutions to laboratory challenges or problems. Optimizes PCR protocols and evaluates laboratory procedures.
      • Additional duties may be assigned.

      Minimum Qualifications
      • Bachelor's degree or equivalent advanced learning attained through experience required and a minimum of 1 year of relevant work experience required.
      Preferred Qualifications
      • More than one year of experience working in a genetics or molecular biology laboratory setting.
