      Position Highlights

      The College of Medicine Department of Psychiatry is leading the effort to understand, diagnose, treat, and prevent psychiatric disorders, prepare future clinicians, provide state-of-the-art care, and give direction to community efforts to improve behavioral health.

      William “Scott” Killgore, PhD, is a Professor of Psychiatry, Psychology, and Neuroscience that joined the University of Arizona July 1, 2014. He brings an active research program from Harvard Medical School and McLean Hospital, including his Social, Cognitive, and Affective Neuroscience (SCAN) Laboratory. Dr. Killgore’s innovative work is funded by the Department of Defense, and recent research focuses on effects of prolonged sleep deprivation, chronic sleep restriction, and the use of stimulant countermeasures on the cognitive-affective systems within the brain.

      Dr. Killgore is looking for a Research Program Administration Officer to be responsible for the strategic creation, management, and administration of staff and systems for the Social, Cognitive, and Affective Neuroscience (SCAN) Laboratory. The Lab is devoted to the study of emotional intelligence, PTSD, mTBI, stress and related conditions. Coordinate day-to-day logistical and management of the SCAN lab research projects and support grant and contract process with the Department of Defense and other funding agencies. Research focuses on effects of prolonged sleep deprivation, chronic sleep restriction, and the use of stimulant countermeasures on the cognitive-affective systems within the brain.

      Duties & Responsibilities

      Project Management

      • Serve as a primary contact/program liaison, including developing strong internal/external relationships and lines of communication with department leadership, Department of Defense, and other funding agencies.
      • Coordinate day-to-day logistical and management oversight for several research projects using extensive and specialized knowledge and experience, including neuroimaging, brain stimulation, sleep deprivation, cognitive testing, and/or online data collection.
      • Oversee the development and monitoring of project plans including timelines, report deadlines, resource requirements, and budgets with an eye for both the daily work of the program and a strategic plan for its growth.
      • Ensure that Institutional Review Board (IRB) and other regulatory documents are prepared accurately and submitted in a timely fashion.
      • See to program improvement and shares best practices to ensure success.

      Project Administration - Contract/Grant Support

      • Review and edit quarterly and annual reports to granting agencies to ensure accuracy and precision in reporting.
      • Assist in the preparation and submission of grants and peer reviewed publications.
      • Act as liaison between UA Contact and Research Support Program and other institutions for correspondence regarding data use and transfer agreements.

      Personnel Management

      • Oversee recruitment and hiring of new lab staff.
      • Schedule and execute on-boarding, training, and regulatory matters for new SCAN Lab staff hires.
      • Supervise laboratory staff, and manage daily reporting, timekeeping, attendance, and other day-to-day personnel issues.
      • Manage personnel organization and effort to ensure timely completion of projects.
      • Organizes and leads team meetings.

      Lab Management

      • Manage personnel allocation, purchasing, facilities, and equipment/supply needs for the lab.
      • Conduct future planning of personnel and resources to ensure research operations continue on pace with statement of work projections.

      Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

      • Ability to communicate effectively with collaborating research labs, University of Arizona departments, and outside organizations.
      • Knowledge of the University of Arizona regulatory process and institutional review board submissions.
      Minimum Qualifications
      • Five (5) years of relevant work experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience required.
      • Bachelor's degree or equivalent advanced learning attained through professional level experience required.
      Preferred Qualifications
      • Human Subjects research experience including data collection, management, and responsible conduct of research.
      • Experience writing Department of Defense protocols, regulatory files, and grants.
