In this vital role you will lead cross-functional teams in internal project and external relationship management for a variety of initiatives across academia and industry. The role is a part of the Portfolio Strategy and Execution group within Amgen’s R&D Strategy and Operations (RDSO) organization. Remote work will be considered for the right candidates.

      The Manager will work towards multiple goals of augmenting Amgen’s access to external innovation & knowledge and strengthening Amgen’s scientific reputation. Day-to-day responsibilities largely includes acting as a project manager for multiple external early R&D collaborations, in addition to some alliance management responsibilities, to enable successful execution and value capture. Work will span across Research’s therapeutic areas, partnering functions, and specialized platforms. The ideal candidate will need to be adept at clearly communicating to ensure proper cross-functional focus on issues, implications, and recommendations. Close partnership is expected with Amgen’s Business Development and Alliance Management groups, Research leadership and scientists, legal and finance teams, external collaborators and experts, and additional groups across the enterprise. As a leader, the candidate will build upon existing initiatives and programs, liaising with key cross-functional partners, while also identifying new opportunities and relationships to develop.

      Successful individuals will have opportunities to grow within the role, the broader R&D Strategy and Operations organization, and Amgen as an enterprise.

      • Manage projects within established scope, schedule, and budget, aligning tactics with strategy, manage change and conflict in a matrix environment
      • Coordinate, facilitate, and motivate project stakeholders to gain alignment on goals and deliverables
      • Serve as an integrator and liaise between multiple Amgen functions and external stakeholders in academia and industry
      • Support the Research Project Management Senior Manager to define where, when, and how to support R&D collaborations and other initiatives
      • Identify new initiatives to support, crafting business cases, identifying tradeoffs, and support any necessary change management

      Basic Qualifications:

      Doctorate degree

      OR

      Master’s degree and 2 years of relevant experience

      OR

      Bachelor’s degree and 4 years of relevant experience

      OR

      Associate’s degree and 8 years of relevant experience

      OR

      High school diploma / GED and 10 years of relevant experience

      Preferred Qualifications:

      • 3+ years in the Biotechnology / Pharmaceutical industry serving in a cross-functional role
      • Advanced life science degree or equivalent experience (i.e., strong scientific foresight)
      • Strong competencies in planning, project management, and organization with the ability to lead multiple activities in parallel while maintaining a focus on quality and timelines
      • Drug Development knowledge with basic to strong understanding of activities within Research, Clinical Development, and Medical, as well as Amgen’s overarching Commercialization process, or demonstrated experience supporting research partnership activities
      • Ability to grasp general knowledge of multiple subject areas
      • Excellent problem-solving skills with demonstrated ability to structure vaguely defined problems and implement practical solutions
      • Strong leadership skills with a demonstrated ability to influence different styles without authority
      • Strong written and oral communication skills and executive presence across functions and across different levels of leadership
      • Independent, motivated, flexible, and resourceful to navigate a matrix environment
      • Basic understanding of intellectual property

      The expected annual salary range for this role in the U.S. (excluding Puerto Rico) is posted. Actual salary will vary based on several factors including but not limited to, relevant skills, experience, and qualifications.

      110,270.00 USD - 133,684.00 USD
