- Conducts literature searches
- Develops methodology for review papers
- Collects, record, analyze and present data
- Maintains records and databases
- Uses software programs, including Covidence, to facilitate the review process and generate PRISMA graphs, etc.
- Prepares reports of completed reviews for: publication in journals, presentations at professional meetings/conferences, and for use in further applied or theoretical research activities.
- Performs project management and other administrative support duties as required
- Works with a high level of independence
- Works collaboratively with others
- Mentors others affiliated with the lab
- Seeks grants and collaborative opportunities to expand research portfolio
- Generate graphical presentation of data using computer applications;
- Drafts reports and revise manuscripts for publications with the assistance of the lab director;
- Drafts grants and portions of grants for submission to federal and private agencies with the assistance of the lab director;
- Generates and contribute to study design for future research;
- Disseminates findings through peer-reviewed publications, presentations at scientific and community meetings, internal and external seminars, and other venues;
- Stays current in area of research interest through review of the relevant literature; educate self about the latest methods and evidence related to physiologic, cardiovascular, and biomedical science;
- Assists with current and new IRB protocols (writing and revising submissions and continuing reviews);
- Assists with keeping laboratory standard operating procedures up to date; general administrative responsibilities and paperwork.
- PhD degree in a health or related field.
- 1-2 years of directly related experience, post Ph.D. degree
- Background in health disparities research
- Strong expertise in all aspects of research from proposal to publication.
- Multiple peer reviewed publications (candidates who do not have full-length original research publications in reputable US-based journals will not be considered, i.e., perspective articles, abstracts, research letters, etc will not be sufficient to fulfill this criteria)
- Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills
- Confident, articulate, and professional communication skills
- The ability to communicate efficiently & professionally, in English (oral & written)
- Strong expertise in data collection, analysis, and written/graphic presentation.
- Knowledge of research protocols
- Careful attention to details
!*!Position Summary
This is a per diem research position focused on publishing narrative, scoping, and systematic reviews in the Silver Lab that focuses on health equity research. This is an exciting new position that will help to identify the current evidence base and note gaps where future research is needed. It is an opportunity to contribute to advancing health equity research and provide evidence-based care for people from historically or socially marginalized groups. This is an ideal job for a talented PhD researcher who desires work/life balance and is also highly motivated and professional. Candidates must have experience conducting reviews with a successful track record in publication of the reviews. Prior review papers published in reputable US-based journals is a strict requirement. Candidates who have a track record in advancing health equity science are encouraged to apply. This position will primarily and/or exclusively be virtual, and most (but not all) of the hours are flexible. Most of the work will be done independently; however, there will be regular one-to-one meetings with Dr. Silver and in small research groups. There will be many opportunities to learn and publish papers. There will be opportunities to be mentored and to mentor others as well.
Lab/Department Specific functions and requirements:
Under the supervision of Julie K. Silver, MD , the candidate should have a successful track record in publishing various types of review papers in medical journals. The applicant should have expertise in library searches, systematic review data collection and analysis, and be able to meet deadlines and work collaboratively with a small team of co-authors. Strong skills are required in statistics, data analysis, creating tables/figures/graphs, and writing/revising manuscripts. Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and oral and written English communication skills are required.
