Lead research programs in AI ethics especially fairness, accountability and transparency
Lead qualitative and quantitative research, including critical literature surveys and semi-structured interviews, to gather insights and AI system design requirements that address fundamental AI ethics problems
Analyze and synthesize research findings into actionable insights and recommendations for AI system design and interaction
Develop guidelines and design principles based on research findings to improve the usability, accessibility, and user experience of AI systems
Collaborate with stakeholders, including users, practitioners, researchers, and engineers, to translate research insights into practical solutions and tools
Work closely with the company’s AI ethics boards to identify key issues around AI ethics in Sony's diverse businesses
Work closely with a team of AI researchers and engineers in the US, Switzerland, and Japan on ambitious AI projects
Write code to support research, usually in Python
Write reports and give presentations for internal audiences
Write papers for, and give presentations at academic conferences
PhD in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence, Human-Computer Interaction, Cognitive Science, Anthropology, Behavioral Sciences, or a related field
Passion to develop cutting-edge AI ethics technology and deploy it through a multi-stakeholder approach
Experience working with different AI ethics stakeholders, such as users and product, engineering, legal, and compliance business units
Proficiency in programming and data analysis tools, such as Python
Excellent knowledge of AI technologies and machine learning algorithms
Knowledge and experience in using HCI research methods (qualitative and quantitative)
Excellent written and oral communication skills, as well as interpersonal skills, including the ability to articulate technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences
The ability to deliver on tight deadlines and adapt to evolving or changing requirements
Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English, and willingness in learning Japanese

Sony AI is seeking highly motivated, self-driven individuals with expertise in AI Ethics - specifically Fairness, Transparency, and Accountability (FTA). Sony has many real-world AI applications in Image Sensing, and we are looking for smart, enthusiastic people who want to research, develop and deploy FTA technology specifically for image processing and real-world applications in various business areas.

The anticipated annual base salary for this position is $130,000 to $170,000. This range does not include any other compensation components or other benefits that an individual may be eligible for . The actual base salary offered depends on a variety of factors, which may include as applicable, the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, specific and unique skills, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and the location in which the applicant lives and/or from which they will be performing the job.
