      The Department of Pediatrics, Division of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology is seeking a qualified candidate for a Research Scientist Staff position. The primary laboratory role for the Research Scientist is to design, conduct, and analyze studies with a focus on unraveling the biology of the pediatric bone cancer Ewing sarcoma. The focus of the laboratory is understanding the intersection of DNA and immunobiology to unveil therapeutic opportunities for the treatment of this cancer. This position includes both basic science and translational assays using patient samples. The Research Scientist will be an active collaborator with the Principal Investigator in the development and implementation of this research and will facilitate and coordinate all aspects of these projects. Specific duties include developing, testing proposed methodologies, designing, and validating experimental protocols. This position will be expected to write results and help navigate manuscript preparation and editing. The Research Scientist will have opportunities to present work both locally and nationally at conferences.

      This position will also include teaching and training of undergraduate, graduate, and medical students, as well as instruction of post-doctoral fellows and research technicians. Experience in cancer cell biology, DNA damage, and/or immunology is strongly preferred. The lab is a highly collaborative and inclusive environment and as such, excellent communication, organizational, and team leadership skills are required. This position is located at UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh in Lawrenceville. PA Child Abuse History Clearance, PA State Police Criminal Record Check, and FBI Criminal Record Check will be required prior to the start of employment.       Doctoral degree required with at least 3 years of post-graduate research experience in a related field of study. Experience in cancer cell biology, DNA damage, and/or immunology is strongly preferred. Preference will be given to candidates who have a proven track record of publishing and excellence in teaching. Equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted per university guidelines.
