      Research Scientist

      Vertex Pharmaceuticals is dedicated to bringing transformative therapies to patients living with rare, life-threatening diseases. We are seeking a highly motivated and innovative scientist to join the Human Cell Models team at the Boston Research site. The successful candidate will work with a cross-functional team developing cellular tools and assays to understand disease biology, characterize targets, and enable high-throughput screening. Candidates are expected to have a broad knowledge of cell and molecular biology techniques and a demonstrated capability to apply them in creative ways to address critical biological questions. The successful candidate will collaboratively drive drug discovery in multiple areas including hematologic disease.

      Key Duties and Responsibilities:

      • Independently design and perform key studies to understand disease biology, elucidate mechanism of action at the physiological, cellular, and molecular levels, and support drug discovery projects
      • Analyze and present results, and recommend courses of action based on datasets and discussions with biologists and chemists
      • Maintain clear records of experimental work
      • Clear communication of results to a multi-disciplinary audience
      • Collaborate closely with team members to deliver on project goals with aggressive timelines

      Knowledge and Skills:

      • Experience in the culture and manipulation of primary and transformed mammalian cells using gene editing and pharmacologic treatments
      • Demonstrated record of strong leadership and problem solving skills
      • Experience collaborating with multidisciplinary teams while also excelling in independent research settings
      • Motivated to discover new therapies that will transform the lives of people with serious diseases

      Education and Experience:

      • Ph.D. (or equivalent degree) in Cellular or Molecular Biology, Genetics, Pharmacology or Physiology, 0-3 years post-doc or related experience preferred
      • Master Degree (or equivalent degree) in cellular biology, biochemistry, biophysics, or related disciplines and 3+ years of relevant employment experience, or
      • Bachelors Degree (or equivalent degree) in cellular biology, biochemistry, biophysics, or related disciplines and 6+ years of relevant employment experience

      Flex Designation:

      On-Site Designated

      Flex Eligibility Status:

      In this On-Site designated role, you will work five days per week on-site with ad hoc flexibility.
