      What We Want

      We’re seeking a Research Specialist IV who is a seasoned research professional with a strong foundation in scientific investigation, data analysis, and surgical procedures—especially in animal models. This person should bring at least ten years of hands-on experience, demonstrate leadership in managing technical teams, and ensure strict compliance with research protocols and safety standards. They’ll be someone who thrives in both field and lab environments, contributes to scientific publications, and mentors students and staff with clarity and precision. Ideally, they’ll also have expertise in molecular biology, inventory systems, and equipment maintenance, making them a vital asset to our research mission.

      Qualifications

      Required Education and Experience

      • Bachelor’s degree in relevant field or equivalent combination of education and experience.

      • Ten years of related experience in a specialized and relevant field of research.

      Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

      • Ability to maintain/troubleshoot surgical, lab and specialty equipment.

      • Ability to handle animals.

      • Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others.

      Preferred Qualifications

      • Extensive experience in anesthesia and aseptic surgical techniques in animal models.

      • Prior management of personnel.

      • Knowledge of standard molecular biology techniques.

      • Knowledge and implementation of inventory and database management for hospital/lab applications.

      Responsibilities

      • Data Analysis and Testing- Plans and directs phases of research projects. Integrates resources, policies, and information for the determination of procedures, solutions, and other outcomes. Compiles, analyzes, interprets, and reviews complex data and metadata. May collect samples and measurements for experiments. Provides research expertise. Implements, audits, and maintains data collection and summarization of field trials. Computes projections. Conducts various tests or experiments requiring creativity, foresight, and judgement. Makes and records observations and scientific measurements. Audits protocols.

      • Technical and Sterile services- Oversees Surgical, Technical, and Sterile services. Oversees technical staff supporting these areas. Performs anesthesia and aseptic surgical procedures.

      • Research Publications- Utilizes summarized results in scientific and/or clientele-oriented publications. Prepares and writes proposals to funding agencies and maintains financial accounts related to research projects. Assists Investigator with the planning and direction of specific phases of research project.

      • Training/Compliance- Trains undergraduate and/or graduate students and other laboratory, technical or field staff involved in research. Develops and maintains training materials for internal/external users. Creates, reviews, and updates Standard Operating Procedures to meet or exceed IACUC and USDA requirements. Manages training, hiring and supervision of associated personnel and oversight of related documentation.
