Required Qualifications (as evidenced by an attached resume):
Bachelor’s degree (foreign equivalent or higher) in biology, biochemistry or a related biological science. Experience in kidney and/or cellular metabolism laboratory research. Experience in culturing human cells in vitro.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in immunostaining, Western blotting, PCR and qPCR. Experience in Seahorse live cell metabolic assays. Experience in analysis of mouse tissues. Computer skills for scientific analysis (e.g. R studio, GraphPad Prism).
Brief Description of Duties:
We are seeking a research support specialist to join the lab of Dr Sian Piret in the Division of Nephrology and Hypertension within the Department of Medicine at Stony Brook University. Our lab is focused on understanding mechanisms of acute kidney injury (AKI) and transition to chronic kidney disease (CKD). Specifically, we are studying transcriptional control of kidney proximal tubular cell metabolism and mechanisms of DNA damage repair. We use in vitro and in vivo models, including live cell metabolic assays and transgenic models. The successful applicant will assist the Principal Investigator in the experiments and data analysis. The incumbent will conduct research and ensure that all experiments are appropriately conducted following the policies and procedures of Stony Brook University. The successful applicant will have laboratory skills, with a willingness to learn new techniques, and high attention to detail. They will have an ability to work independently, including in problem solving, as well as within a team.
