      Position Highlights The James C. Wyant College of optical Sciences at the University of Arizona is seeking applicants for a Research Laboratory Assistant in the fields of experimental optics and infrared sensing. Responsibilities include constructing fog/dust chambers, conducting laboratory and field experiments, and working with advanced optical systems such as the FLIR A6750 infrared camera and Q-Tune laser system. The position also involves regular progress presentations, team collaboration, and a final technical report summarizing research outcomes. The individual will have an opportunity to turn their research results in journal publications if and as appropriate.

      Position will be active from early June to early August.

      Duties & Responsibilities
      • Assist with the design and construction of fog/dust test chambers to be used for the characterization of both passive and active infrared imaging in degraded visual environments.
      • With direct supervision perform laboratory testing and characterization of infared sensors and laser systems.
      • Background research on types of fog and the methods by which they are generated.
      • Assist PI or Graduate Students with field testing of environmental chambers and infrared imaging systems to include loading/unloading/transportation of equipment, field calibration, and subsequent data analysis.
      • Participation and presenting at weekly design meetings with senior graduate students as well as attendance of the weekly group technical meetings.
      Minimum Qualifications
      • High school diploma or high school diploma equivalency is required.
      • Federal regulations require that the incumbent be a U.S. citizen, legal permanent resident, or have another protected status under 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3) to be ITAR/EAR compliant.
