- Manage research animals, including breeding and weaning; maintain detailed animal data in databases, attend lab meetings and provide weekly reports.
- Under general supervision assist with behavioral assays, dissections, necropsy and surgical procedures on research animals.
- Perform toe/tail tipping and PCR genotyping.
- Assist team with the development of research experiments with a focus on biochemical and molecular biology, including helping with the experimental design, identification of the appropriate methods, and troubleshooting best practices.
- Aid in lab maintenance and cleaning of lab equipment from experiments. Train lab members and students in standard lab and animal procedures.
- Maintain records, logs, notes, and spreadsheets to facilitate data analysis.
- Maintain compliance records and SOP's.
- Provide routine and technical administrative support to research projects including ordering, stocking, and cleaning basic laboratory supplies.
- Employee must be able to keep protocols, data, and samples organized with clear documentation recording how experiments were performed to ensure rigor and reproducibility.
- Employee must be able to solve problems that may require some analysis and interpretation. They are expected to independently propose solutions to problems for manager review, requiring innovation and creativity. Be able to review the effectiveness of programs, projects, or systems within own group / function, and making necessary adjustments.
- Employee should be able to effectively communicate with professionalism with immediate peers within assigned work group and facilitate interaction and information exchange with other work groups as required to perform role. Based on nature of the role, employee may field requests from others in the organization.
- Employee should be able to work under minimal guidance and assigned in the form of desired expectations. Should use independent judgment to determine best approach and creativity is expected to achieve maximum results and handle new situations. Decisions have some impact on operations and outcomes within own job function (generalists) or specific work area (specialists).
- High school diploma or equivalent, or equivalent learning attained through experience required.
- Three (3) years of relevant experience required.
- Bachelor’s degree is Life Sciences.
- Prior experience with managing research animals.

Dr. Henk Granzier’s NIH funded lab focuses on studying the structure and function of titin and nebulin. The candidate will perform data collection, laboratory techniques, and assist with and provide general laboratory support.
