- Bachelor's Degree in a related study area, including laboratory analysis techniques.
- High school completion with job-related options with a minimum of four years = directly-related experience.
- Experience with job-related software such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
- Experience and/or ability to learn statistical/analytical software.
- Capable of learning and mastering new techniques.
- Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as a member of a team.
- Ability to train staff and students in techniques used in the workplace.
- Some positions require experience overseeing the work of others.
- Knowledge of WHMIS and hazardous materials, animal/human ethics protocols and regulations.
- Physically capable of performing the duties as assigned, which may include mobility and/or moderate to heavy lifting.
- Some positions require incumbent to possess philosophy compatible with animal-based research.
- Ability to complete relevant courses and/or obtain relevant certifications (e.g., WHIMIS, Animal User Training, human/animal ethics)
- Must have satisfactory employment record
- Must be legally able to work in Canada
- Previous experience in life sciences bench work
- Ability to speak French

Job Summary:
Following experimental designs established by a scientist, graduate student or more senior technician, positions at this level provide a wide variety of routine standardized technical assistance and analysis, or perform routines developed for specialized experiments, under general supervision, except when new techniques are being learned. Incumbents are expected to work on their own initiative once routines have been mastered.
Incumbents direct, train and provide orientation to new employees at the same or more junior level and train or demonstrate techniques to students using established guidelines and procedures.
Incumbents are expected to perform any duties performed by Research Technician 1s as required to support the activities of the unit.
