- Req#: 10006797
Job DescriptionA member of the Department of Molecular Physiology and Biophysics, the Claxton laboratory employs tools of biochemistry and biophysics to explore the structure and function of membrane proteins that catalyze fundamental reactions in glucose metabolism. Dysregulation or malfunction of these targets contributes to metabolic disorders such diabetes and glycogen storage disease. Our overall approach integrates knowledge of protein structure with deep learning strategies, spectroscopic methods, thermodynamics, and kinetics to develop mechanistic models of functional dynamics. Our long-term goal is to uncover relationships between target molecular properties, evolutionary sequence space, and disease-linked variants to aid rational design of therapeutic strategies. The lab capitalizes on state-of-the-art instrumentation at Vanderbilt, including cryogenic electron microscopy (cryo-EM) and electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR), to facilitate discoveries.Duties and Responsibilities
Apply molecular biology techniques for plasmid DNA engineeringPerform cell culture procedures
Collect and curated data using established assays
Other duties, as assigned
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in chemistry, biology, or related field is necessaryExperience in molecular biology and cell culture is strongly preferred
