      JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

      Penn State Harrisburg Central PA Research and Teaching Laboratory for Biofuels is seeking a candidate for the position of Research Technologist - Life Sciences (Laboratory Manager).

      Job Responsibilities:

      • Develop, design, and conduct research experiments; research responsibilities are focused on industrial hemp (Cannabis sativa) tissue culture and CRISPR gene editing and evaluation of the results

      • Responsible for the safe operation of the biofuels research laboratory

      • Responsible for all greenhouse activities, including daily care of plants, pesticide applications as needed, and collection of data from transgenic plants

      • Train users in equipment operation and research techniques, explain and demonstrate technology and equipment capabilities, operations limitations, and outcomes

      • Responsible for maintaining supplies of laboratory chemicals and equipment and performing routine laboratory and greenhouse audits

      • May supervise lower-level staff, wage employees, and/or students

      • Participate in K-12 STEM outreach activities

      Typical Education & Experience:

      • Bachelor’s degree or higher (Master's degree preferred) in plant biology, horticulture/breeding

      • Plus seven years of related experience in industry or academics

      • Or an equivalent combination of education and experience

      • Experience with molecular biology and genetic transformation techniques is a plus

      $42,100.00 - $61,000.00
