JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
We at the Center for Molecular Toxicology and Carcinogenesis at Penn State, seek a diverse pool of candidates for a Research Technologist 3. The position will be based in the Peters Laboratory, with opportunities for collaboration with many programs, centers, and Institutes across the College and University.
This is a limited-term appointment funded for one year, with the opportunity and expectation for continued renewal.
Responsibilities: The successful candidate will be required to undertake independent research projects, supervise undergraduate research projects, provide assistance with graduate student and postdoctoral research projects, manage routine laboratory procedures including inventories of recombinant plasmids, maintenance of laboratory reagents, organizing, updating and implementing new laboratory protocols, preparation of laboratory reports including statistical analysis of datasets, and perform literature searches for a variety of research projects. The candidate will also oversee all ordering and reconciliations for the laboratory, division of laboratory duties among lab personnel, as well as chemical waste inventory and handling.
Education and Experience: This position typically requires a Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (such as biology, biochemistry, oncology, physiology, or closely related field) or higher (Master's degree preferred) and 7+ years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.Relevant research experience, a strong interest in nuclear receptors, cancer, transcription, metabolism, and a history of productivity is required. Candidates with expertise animal handling skills, maintaining mouse inventory and standard molecular biology/biochemical techniques including PCR genotyping, isolation of recombinant DNA and RNA, quantifying RNA, protein isolation, western blotting and cell culture required. Familiarity with nuclear receptor signaling, metabolism, genomics, and metabolomics is preferred.
The successful candidate must have completed all degree requirements by the appointment date. Communication, creative leadership, congeniality, and the ability to work cooperatively among a diverse population of students, faculty, and staff, is essential.
