The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), Laboratory of Dr. Zhiyong Liu in the Department of Cell, Developmental and Integrative Biology is seeking a motivated Researcher V to support the research goals of the Liu Lab.

General Responsibilities

• To be responsible for the overall operation of the lab.
• To oversee projects within the lab.
• To contribute to the design, interpretation and writing of grant proposals and publications.
• To supervise a research team, direct and teach lab practices.
• To manage lab equipment and supplies.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

1. Participates in writing of research article manuscripts, grant application, and various research relevant documents.
2. Trains graduate and undergraduate students on basic lab procedures.
3. Performs cell biology experiments including cell line culture, primary cell culture, immunofluorescence staining, imaging, and data analysis relevant to the experiments.
4. Performs molecular biology experiments including polymerase chain reaction, DNA digestion and purification, protein purification, and various biochemical experiments.
5. Manages mouse colonies and performs experiments to analyze the animals models generated in the lab. Animal experiments includes mouse breeding, genotyping, mouse surgery, mouse samples collection, behavior test, and other downstream analysis.

Annual Salary Range $49,004.80 - $60,000.00

• Doctorate in a related field and one (1) year of related experience
• OR Master's degree in a related field and three (3) years of related experience
• OR Bachelor’s degree in related field and five (5) years of related experience

Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement.

Preferences

• Must have 4+ years of research experience in a life science-focused basic science laboratory.
• Ph.D. in a life sciences field.
